Needs better instructions.
Other than some wrong and missing information on the instructions, this is a great machine. In a couple of places the intructions call out the wrong size bolts skip some steps. For that, I would say this is not for beginners. If you have put together kits like this before, you'll be able to figure it out. There are also instructional videos, but they are in Chinese. You need some skills/experience to put all of the info together to get everything booked up the right way. Specifically related to the servo, stepper motor, and belt installation/configuration.

Product did not work, essential instructions missing or in Chinese, a knockoff of a US made product
The kit arrives in a nice compact box. The instructions are in badly translated english, and refer to videos that are entirely in Chinese (no subtitles or reference). So, the videos are only useful if you are OK watching and not understanding a word the person is saying. This is very clearly a knockoff of another product. All the pieces are cut acrylic or 3D printed plastic. After a few hours of assembly, there are a lot of final steps that aren't outlined anywhere... like testing the motors. The software included does not work with newer Macs, but I was able to locate the later version and make it work. But, after everything was done, the motors didn't function. The pen control moved up and down, but the X/Y plotting motors never made a move. When I contacted them with the email provided, I was finally sent the instructions from the original product they knocked off--a US company called AxiDraw--which had very helpful instructions for running their machine. So, I returned the product and bought the AxiDraw. So, this is a great DIY project for you and your kid if you want to learn to build something. But, if you just want a robot to draw for you, I'd say just google AxiDraw and buy the real thing.

Good plotter
The plotter is really good as far as drawing. The laser not so much. The seller is very responsive to emails and sent out a replacement laser and a missing part the day I emailed. To me Inkscape isn’t user friendly but I’m used to a different program so it could be the issue. Overall this is a good buy minus the laser. The instructions were also good if you go step by step.

The directions are not good, your going to be better served watching the YouTube video with the mute on. Once the plotter is assembled it’s 5.0 and even better when you realize you got it for cheap. Seller was excellent when I needed replacement parts.

Decent entry level drawing robot
This robot has been great to use over the last month. I bought it with some development funds from my job and have been making drawings with the machine. The hardware itself has been just fine. I think I may purchase a second one with metal parts rather than the 3D printed ones, but it’s been working out just fine. I find the Inkscape software quirky, but it does ok.
