Professional Tarot: The Business of Reading, Consulting and Teaching

A bit basic and outdated
Not really what I thought it was going to be after all the stellar reviews. Not enough detail about the business end of running a business, but lots of outdated tips such as bringing a map with you if going to a client because this was apparently written before smart phones. There was some good info, but just overall not what I was hoping for. I feel like most of this information, and frankly better information, can be gotten for free from internet searches.

She Covered It All
No matter if you're setting up a brick and mortar Tarot office, want to teach Tarot or read Tarot on the go, this text provides great step by step instructions on how to get started and be successful. Some thing's are a little dated, for instance Google wasn't the go-to SE when the book was written, but the content is still relevant. That said, if you want to be compensated for helping others using your Tarot reading skills, get this book.

Very good introduction to topic.
This is a very good introduction to the business of being a professional reader. Particular stress is placed on reader ethics, which is a very important topic, and one which merits much attention. In addition, helpful information is given with regard to the nuts and bolts of setting up a practice, securing office space (or not), advertising, developing policies and setting prices. Some discussion is given to overcoming deeply ingrained money issues as they relate to charging clients for your services. Overall, very well thought out. Some of the material, alas, is a bit outdated -- such things as recommended websites having moved or closed -- but these are minor (and unavoidable) problems with what is a very practical and useful book.

Great starting book if you are thinking about reading professionally
This book is full of good ideas and things to consider if you want to professionally read tarot. Its the first book of this kind that I have read and I am new to the idea of reading for money (not new to reading cards). If you are looking for a book to help you learn the cards, this is not what you want, but it gives great ideas about building a business and what it is like to be a professional reader.

Indispensible Tool for Any Professional Practitioner
Professional Tarot by Christine Jette is the one book I referred to most often as I was creating both my on-line and live classes and seminars -- in palmistry. She covers all the key information you need to know to build your spiritual, alternative, metaphysical or related business. From marketing tips to dealing with unsavory clients - she's got your back. What was of particular interest to me was the meticulous way she lays out seminar topics and advanced classes.Even though I only dabble in Tarot for my own experience, I do teach palmistry. Having this book at my desk while I was creating my first curriculum was priceless!A must have for anyone ready to start making money with their skills in esoteric or mystical practices.

Good practical advice for anyone considering becoming a professional reader
Good practical advice for anyone considering becoming a professional reader. Yes, some of it is outdated but the rest provided tips that certainly made it worth the price.

Outdated information
I wanted to love this book, but the information is basically common sense and very dated. The internet has changed a lot in 15 years (the book was published in 2003), so most of the many weblinks and internet tips are useless.Christine Jette has a nice tone and seems to be a lovely person. But the book itself - recycle basket!

Soon to be out of print!
Jette's book is not only a brilliant spur to send you galloping on your way to becoming a professional Tarotist, it also helps you over the jumps if you are already working as a pro.She covers everything from taking that first leap right through to providing training and delivers it in an upbeat and encouraging tone. I don't think that there is any stone left unturned in this book - there are oodles of creative ways to wring every last drop of possibility from your Tarot business. For example - the counselling aspect of Tarot is covered, including personal safety, right through to working via telephone services or running your own website - all in an easily digestible form. She even remembers to pass on some hints and tips about taxes, bless her!In fact, the only reason that I didn't give this a full-star rating was because the finances are geared towards an American reader. So, you'll need to remember that you are looking for IRS in the index, not the UK's beloved HM Customs and Excise ;-) A very minor niggle on a really super book. And the real reason that I wanted to post a review today is that this book is going out of print. I believe that once stocks are run down, it will only be available on a buy-to-print basis (ie you pay for it and a copy is printed off for you (or perhaps downloaded to you?). That's probably going to increase the cost - so buy it now while it's still available folks!

Not bad, worth a look
At the time of purchase I had already launched my own business reading tarot 2 yrs previously. I bought the book to see if I could improve my set up of my website, accounts etc. I seemed to be doing ok and didn't really learn anything new. So I havent read it over again.

Professional Tarot.
I have nearly finished this book and I am very pleased with it. It has a lot of helpful information. Some of which I knew already but if you know nothing about Tarot and running a business then I recommend this book.
