How do you make the touchscreen function work? I plugged in the power cord, hdmi, and usb ports but the touchscreen doesn't work.

All external touchscreen monitors require two cables. One cable (in this case an HDMI cable which does not come with the monitor) to manage the video input and a USB cable to handle the touch input (similar to a mouse or keyboard). The USB cable can either be usb-c at both ends or usb-a (for your computer) to usb-c (for the monitor). The monitor package for some reason includes only a VGA cable and a usb-c to usb-c cable. In theory the cable combination that comes with the monitor should work but there are two problems. 1) Many people don't have a VGA connection on their computer any more and VGA may not support the full refresh rate as well. 2) Many people don't have a free USB-C connection on their computer. The documentation for this monitor is awful.. Nowhere does it say in the documentation doe it explain why you need two cables what kinds of cables will work and often times makes it sound like the USB cable is optional.

Is the touch screen interface compatible with Ubuntu?

Acer has not tested Ubuntu, but you might also post your question on the Acer Community where there are many users that post questions and offer help and advice on Acer products.

Is this touchscreen capacitive or resistive?

The touch screen is capacitive.
