yes it has to be screwed which is much sturdier. i also have it screwed on tiles it was no problem to drill the tiles. with a special bits

Q: Where is the rod "seam" on this rod? Is it in the center or toward one end, and does it interfere with the curtain rings sliding along it?

The seam is towards one end and sometimes the rings hang up on the seam a bit but it's not irritating to us. I know that lots of people reviewing the product stated that the seam was a problem, but I don't find it any more of an issue than any other shower curtain rod we have had.

I'm assuming we can install this over tile? We have newly tiled the full shower walls - no drywall. Husband can drill the tile...just confirming.
