Mountainsmith Shade 12 Tarp, Burnt Ochre

We used this tarp on an eight day river trip down the Yukon river and have nothing but good to say. During a storm we had to pull off the water a few times and could easily set up in a few minutes. One of our crew commented that the color was nice on an overcast day as it brightened things up. Design, quality and weight are fantastic, most definitely one of the best pieces of gear we had on our trip. Considering all of this they could definitely charge more. The only thing I would change is the shape of the stuff sack as it is too long and narrow making it hard to stuff.

This tarp has really transformed our primitive camping experience ... It beautifully made, waterproof, gives us a place to hang out and cook in the rain, the color is beautiful, it's light, it's possibly the best addition to our backpacking experience.

Sure, you can buy canopies that set up faster but you can’t beat the portability of this bad boy. For car camping, I picked up 4 green elephant telescoping tarp poles and which worked great with this guy. I wished I took a picture for the set up, maybe next camping season I’ll add it to this review.

This is a really well-designed and well-made tarp. Excellent fabric that offers a perfect combo of light weight, durability, and water resistance. Saved us from the hot sun on a beach camping trip and kept us dry during heavy rains while camping in the mountains. We set it up with Mountainsmith’s steel tarp poles, and this combo works great.

Have this set up as a solar shade on my patio. Very durable, had some really strong winds and no tears and no leaks when it rains!

Love this tarp. Great sunshade at the beach or complete rain fly coverage for hammock camping. Wish it came in other sizes colors also. Well made, great material and craftsmanship
