🛠️ Build Smart, Live Well!
The Trex Protect Joist Butyl Tape (1-5/8" x 50') is a high-performance tape designed to protect wooden structures from moisture, rot, and decay. It enhances the longevity of deck screws and acts as a barrier between wood and metal, ensuring a robust and durable deck installation.

Durable
Don’t have a wood structured deck without it. Unless you want joists to rot from top down like my last wood deck.

Works great....as long as it is warm
Purchased for my deck project and it worked great. I was initially worried because it wasn't adhering at all. It was ~70 outside and early morning. The wood was clean and dry, but it must have been just a little dewey out. Heat gun worked at first, but that would've been a pain. Let it sit until afternoon and it was STUCK. After that, just worked when it was a bit warmer. It sticks well, lays we'll, and cuts well. Seems like it'll add the protection to the wood to last much longer.

Good Joist Tape
I replaced the floor boards and railings on my deck, but before doing so I put the Trex joist tape on the tops of all floor hosts and band boards. The tape has very good adhesive but make sure the outside temperature is above 50 degrees. We had temps close to that so we used a heat gun on the wood prior to placement and on the tape itself after it was put on. Wear old clothes when putting on the tape. If you brush up against it, some can come off onto your clothes. When I rebuilt my deck, the floor joists were in good condition so I looked at the Flex tape as a way to prolong the life of the joists. It took 4 rolls to do my 14 x 14 deck. I think it was well worth the additional investment.

Joist tape - just the ticket for prolonging the life of your deck.
We recently re-surfaced our 20-year-old deck with Trex. The original decking had been neglected by the previous owner and unfortunately couldn't be salvaged. Joists were in good shape, and just before we began the re-build a friend asked "Are you going to use joist tape?". I was unfamiliar with the technology but decided to do a little research. After looking at several less expensive brands, we settled on Trex Protect.Application is very straightforward and the product performs as expected. I'm giving 5 stars since it's a great idea and a great product; just be aware that the soft butyl rubber underneath the top strip will stick to your hands and fingers. I'd recommend using some light-duty rubber gloves when working with the tape. Now that the project is complete, I'll agree that the black tape underneath the Trex fasteners certainly helps with the appearance, too! Good luck with yours.

Very sticky
Liked the adhesion. A little messy in application. Excess butyl material will get on fingers. Not sure of surAbility.

Trex Protect Joist Butyl Tape 1-5/8" x 50'
I used two rolls on the support of a deck that I built for my wife's art studio. They worked well. Would recommend it to any one.

There are better options
All things considered with a pandemic on and everything, we had to get a mix of a bunch of different flashing tapes. Our deck will be entirely Trex based so we went with this for at least part of the flashing. There are better brands available and you can tell just by looking at the adhesion from one strip of Trex flashing to a strip of Zip flashing. All in all it seems like it will do the job, but I'd like to know the job will be done well rather than be slightly suspicious.

Trex stringer waterproof tape
Does not stay flat when subjected to sun shine thus hot temperatures. If does stick well and is easy to install.

Great product!
The tape sticks very well and was easy for us to install. Installing the Trex product should extend the life of our 24 year old deck. Shipping was an issue as it took a long time to arrive. Also, we ordered a second roll and the seller said they had no record of our purchase even though the tape arrived a few days later. Plan ahead!

Use this stuff on your new deck!
Great product for use with composite decking or regular decking. Sticks to the tops of studs and stays put even when walking on the studs. Very durable looks like it will last forever - would use again!
