Great book! Read this review to find out how the book ends- I think this is important info!
I wasn’t sure how the book would end prior to actually receiving the book in the mail. I wanted to make sure it was in a way that drives home the point that being yourself is okay and will not compromise your ways/style/comfort to please others. I’m glad she didn’t wear the dress in the end- the surprise ending is that she makes the dress into a suit and wears it with her plaid shirt. Perfect ending!

Unique and Beautiful Book
What I loved most about this book is Annie. She knows who she is, and she won't let anyone tell her what to wear or who to be. Unlike most books, It's not the main character who is changed by the journey; it's those around her. The themes and subject are very clear, yet the delivery is subtle and nuanced. The simplicity in Annie's Plaid Shirt is its strength. The ending is uplifting and satisfying, and the illustrations are delightful. This is a wonderful book!

A book that teaches good values to a young audience.
Annie’s Plaid Shirt, written by Stacy Davids, and beautifully illustrated by Rachael Balsaotos, is far more than the assertion of a young girl striving for individualism and self-expression. Yes, there is Annie, seeking independence, even if it is contrary to accepted social convention. But more than that, we see a small family communicating meaningfully and successfully mitigating a shared challenge. These are good values to impart on a young readership. Nicely done.

Great Book
I am a Speech-Language Pathologist and I read this with some of my students. It kept the students engaged and it was short enough to finish in one session. No one could guess what would happen at the end, which made the ending more fun. We worked on prediction, reading comprehension, decoding, and inferencing. We even got to talk about our feelings on gender and social norms. I will definitely use this book again and even with the children in my life.

Buy for preschoolers (4-5 year olds)
I lead a toddler classroom (ages 1-2), and while I love this book it is a little old for them. The subject matter is great, it's just a little too long to old their attention. 3-4 year olds would do a bit better but I think preschool is the target audience.

This was the perfect book for my 7 yr old daughter who prefers short hair, and clothing from the “boys” section. Thank you for writing such a wonderful book that normalizes my daughter’s choices both for her and her peers (they have this book at her school too!). ❤️

The best part for the child was seeing the author's and illustrator's pictures in plaid shirts at the end of the book.
