Exactly what I need!
I really enjoyed this story! It was so action packed and just gave all the feels!Zoey is such a great lead character, she has been through so much in her life and watching her try do better while not only reliving her past but learning from it is great! The whole story line about where she works is cool too, seeing it from the humans perspective gave a new spin on this world.I love Ryker as well, a big great viking who definitely helped out with the story and took us on some adventures, plus I mean he is gorgeous! The world building was great, setting up the story with great writing, made this for a super easy read, love!

A great new series!! Even better then her last!
While I, like many others were sad to leave Eli and Ember behind, we have gained Zoey, Ryker and Sprig! Her new series takes place in the same world(s) as her last series and while having had read them adds a bit of an extra understanding, it is not crucial. I feel as if Brown has come into her own as a writer and I will be following this series actively! I read it without putting it down! Great book!

Awesome!!!
Book Review- City in Embers by Stacey Marie BrownZoey Daniels is a collector for a secret government department (DMG) that catches Fae and studies them. She is a seer. She has the ability to see passed the glamour Fae use. She and her partner Daniel Holt make a good team even though there is a twenty year age difference. Despite that age difference, Zoey is head over heels in love with her partner. He has kept their relationship plutonic because of that age difference. Zoey knows her feelings will never change. Her sister Lexie constantly teases her about him. She is determined to change his mind. One night while on patrol Zoey and Daniel stumble upon a confrontation between two groups of Fae. Zoey and Daniel listen to the exchange until they are discovered. Once that happens everything goes wrong. Daniel battles against a Fae and loses. A giant lightning bolt strikes the Needle. The city of Seattle lies in ruin. Daniel is gone and Zoey is left with a Fae named Ryker. He believes she has something of his. Zoey, at first, runs from him but she realizes she has lost everything and has become the enemy in the eyes of her DMG teammates.Secrets have been kept and Daniel has sent her on a hunt for the truth. She, Ryker and a sprite named Sprig work together to stay ahead of the DMG and the group of Fae lead by Garrett. Zoey and Ryker have to learn to work together and trust each other even though they are enemies.I really like this author. I’ve read her Darkness series and was excited to see this first book in a different series. It is a spin off from the Darkness series after the devastation of Seattle with a new female character. Zoey is a great character. She is strong, smart and sassy. She knows what she wants and she refuses to apologize for it. I loved her instantly and got in her corner. The storyline turns a different corner pretty fast. Zoey lost a lot not long after the story started. I like the way she has to reevaluate what she believes and how she feels. She has to partner up with the “enemy” to stay alive. The author leads her down the path of finding the truth. Fae may not be as bad as she was lead to believe. The journey she and Ryker take is full of danger and secrets. Zoey finds out more about her life and gets some shocking information. She and Ryker grow closer and learn to trust each other. This first book really draws you in and builds the lead into the second book. It was an excellent read. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

A Must Read Fantasy Series
I wholeheartedly enjoyed this story! I have been a fan of Ms. Brown’s for some time now and this story was simply captivating! I read this is one sitting. I loved the premise of the story and I absolutely loved not only the outwardly struggle that Zoey has to face but those struggles that are burrowed so deep down in her consciousness she may not know the exist. Ms. Brown takes a girl, who by today’s standards has had a rough, horrible life and slowly introduces us to all her layers. Zoey is truly a survivor of the highest caliber. Her issues of abandonment and people pleasing do make for some uncomfortable interactions, but her zeal and determination make for some great scenes. I LOVE Ryker, he is now my #1 book boyfriend. He is absolutely a tough nut to crack, like Zoey he has many layers, and his issues are also deeply rooted. I loved how the character’s journey pushed both Ryker and Zoey to face their inner demons and their prejudices not only towards one another but how the view the world. I also enjoyed the slow burn of sexual tension between Ryker and Zoey, it was so thick you could practically taste it! I adore the interactions with Sprig, this series is reminiscent of Elle Casey's “War of the Fae”, which was the first ever fantasy series I have ever read and I reread that series at least once a year! It is one of the highest compliments I can give Ms. Brown as this book is high on my recommended list of must reads. The humor intermingled with serious issues makes this one of the best book series I have read. The writing seemed to flow effortlessly, the plot linear and the character development on par. I am already half way through the next book in this series.

Left Me Breathless, Few First-in-Series-Books Ever Have.
Wooo! I am totally hooked! I'm actually having a hard time getting to sleep, stewing over what will happen next! This book seems to have just the right pace, the right balance between action and calm. As well as some surprising twists that kick the feet right out from under you! The tremulous friendship/relationship builds slowly, but the right kind of slowly. It's intense and yet realistic, it's refreshing! I'm going to go read it again and savoir it, it's all I can do while I wait for the next book in the set to come out!
