Recognizing Autism in Women & Girls

Introduction to autism
If you are not familiar with autism, this is a good introductory book. However, the book itself doesn't bring any new information that isn't already out there. The message, however, is important, families, teachers, and mental health professionals must be aware of how autism impacts and manifest in girls and women.

Astounding Read
I adore this book and have been recommending it furiously! The writing and organization are both engaging and logical. It’s simple in presentation but with profound levels of understanding and connection. It’s the first book I have been able to read straight through in a very long time!

A must read - couldn't put it down!
I can't recommend this book enough. Dr. Marsh gets right to the point in outlining why individuals assigned female at birth are often mis- or undiagnosed. Each chapter discusses a specific DSM criteria and helps the reader understand the subtle ways that females might fit that criteria. She does this by using fictional characters to demonstrate examples of how traits in young females often get mislabeled or overlooked. Then, she provides specific questions to consider when assessing each criteria. All clinicians diagnosing autism should read this book for these questions. They are so carefully crafted and would really help to fine-tune the diagnostic interview. Finally, my favorite part is the "In Her Own Words" section that gives space for actually autistic females to share their lived experience. There needs to be more actually autistic voices in the autistic research and literature world and Dr. Marsh does a wonderful job incorporating these voices into her book.

Good Intro to Autism in Females
I liked this book and related with many of the points but I found it somewhat simplistic and was wanting more after I finished. I appreciate the list of resources at the end. I will be gifting this book to a family member to start the conversation about my autism.
