Probably the best driveway alarm
This is a good driveway alert system. It can be set to alert with different sound based on incoming/outgoing vehicle direction, or only on one direction if desired. This RE-4K PLUS receiver supports up to 16 transmitters and also has 2 relays and a 12 volt output that can be associated with 3 of those 16 devices. Note that this DAPT-4000 transmitter count as two devices if both incoming/outgoing alarms are used.Bright blue LED lights flash when the alert trips. I find it too bright for home use.I am using it at 1,000 feet away through several trees in the way, so the transmission range is very good. The probes detect vehicles via magnetic induction so there is no false alarm from animals.Programming must be done when both transmitter and receiver are accessible at the same time. This can be a problem when additional devices are added. For instance, if another receiver is added (say to listen to alert in another part of the house) you will need to setup the receiver, then run over to the transmitter and press a button there to pair them.Permanent installation requires burying the probes and the cables, and mounting the transmitter 4-5 feet off the ground. I mounted mine on a tree. The three CR123A batteries should last more than a year based on my previous experience with their older model, though it would depend on your traffic pattern.Go to their web site and download the manuals for more details.Additional note if you were using the old 2500 series:No vehicle counting memory, No exit delay timer, Only 4 digital volume setting and no analog control.Good false alarm immunity due to dual probes, so lightening doesn't cause a false trip.

Dakota Alert DAPT-4000 and companion receiver RE-4K Plus
I had an old Dakota driveway alarm using two separate magnetic units. To determine whether a vehicle was entering or leaving I had to set computer flags relating to each senser. This DAPT-4000 along with the companion RE-4K Plus receiver allowed me to clean up these computer flags and only program what is necessary when a vehicle enters or leaves. In addition to programmable chimes this receiver has two relay outputs. Although it has not yet been operational during a thunderstorm, I am told that the likelihood of falling due to lightning is all but eliminated. Had a little trouble programing the relays but Dakota tech support gets a thumbs up from me.

Very reliable with no false signals.
Easy to install an external power supply, provided it's regulated to 9.9 Volts.Technical support is excellent. They really want their product to be a success. I love doing business with these guys!

Dakota Alert
We have become reliant on our Dakota Alert. The original batteries lasted a year, but when they needed replaced I had trouble getting the alert to work, so I called the support number and I was back in business. We live down a long private lane and it’s comforting to know when someone is coming. Since it only detects vehicles we don’t have to deal with false alarms.
