Several of our adopted kids have Sensory processing issues, one with autism, and one with neurologic issues. I found weighted blankets to be amazing BUT to big and bulky to bring with us - to school, Dr offices, and in the car. So I searched and found lap pad's needed a revamping. I spent months looking for a fabric that was safe for my kids BUT that I could use to design their lap pad's so they were unique but SUPER cute!! My goal with Calmyz was to give my kids a product that the other kids would look at an WANT! We use a wipeable fabric that is still soft to the touch (no plastic fabric). With 8 kids - the last thing I have time for is to remember to grab the weighted lap pad from school and wash once a week. Instead this amazingly resilient fabric can just be wiped down by the teacher. Encase they get super dirty - then just pop them in the washing machine!! We also wanted to make sure our Calmyz sensory lap pad's are durable. They are serged around the edges (like the inside of your jean's) and then safety sewn around the outside edge. After MUCH TESTING with our kids and their friends, we found that sewing channel's allowed the kids to fold over the lap pad if they wanted more weight in a smaller area. (our 1 lb do have a center seam). Determining weight is personal preference and your OT might be able to help. 1lb - toddler, 2lb - preschool, 3lb - early elementary, 4- lb elementary, 5 lb - older. THe rule of thumb of 10% of your child's weight also works. Printed fabric is on the front and we use a coordinating solid fabric on the back. (1-Orange, 2-white, 3-Turquoise, 4-CHocolate, 5-Ribbit, 6-Navy- 7-Slate, 8-Red, 9-Lt Blue, 10-Olive, 11-Raspberry, 12-Plum, 13-Orchid, 14-Purple, 15-Bubblegum, 16-Pool, 17-Slate, 18-Mint, 19-Jade, 20-Butter, 21-Royal, 22-Green, 23-Yellow, 24-Orange, 25-Red) **You will need this number for the coordinating color upon checkout**
