Great Developmental Book For Infant Or Toddler
I came across this title while looking for developmental books for an impending baby. I loved that this had the high contrast black and white color scheme and bold graphics while also offering a sweet, engaging story that’s sure to grow with a child. I was additionally charmed that the story was specifically about the arrival and celebration of a new baby. I was, however, disappointed that the longer paged hardcover version seems to be out of print. I took a stab and ordered a used copy but was disappointed by its condition. This would undoubtedly be a great addition to any child’s library and I wholeheartedly recommend!

Cute rhymes and big, bold pictures for young babies.
This is such a cute book for a very young baby! Our three month old has really woken up to the world these past few weeks, and the bold black and white images and large "handwritten" words really catch her eye. It is so cute to see her just stare at the animals on the pages and at least glance at the words. :) The story is very basic and short, of course, but it has a really good rhyming cadence to it which delights babies and keeps it a little less boring for the adults reading it. Here's hoping it is the beginning of a long life of fascination with the written word for her.

My son loves this book!
My 15 month old son LOVES this book, and has loved it since we started reading it at 4 or 5 months old. While I personally think it could have been better done (pictures of the animals actually doing the things they say they did, rather than pictures of the animals just dancing around), my son DOES NOT CARE. The first time we read it each day, he patiently listens to the whole book, relishing the anticipation of his favorite part... the kissing! He knows he gets a couple of big smackers from mom or dad when we get there. The second or third time we read it, he turns each page early, sometimes skipping over them altogether to get to the kissing part. Gratuitous, but SO lovely. If you have a young baby, this is a great book for a starter library. The pictures are graphic and engaging for little minds. And this book will help you and your baby associate reading time with all kinds of yummy things. Kissing especially.

Perfect 1st Book for Baby
My baby isn’t a fan of being a baby. In fact, being a baby just makes her mad. She hates not being able to move around herself. She hates not being able to communicate with me well. She hates her swing, her bouncy seat, her crib, and especially her carseat. My conclusion: she hates being a baby. However, for whatever reason, she loves being read to. Her favoritest of favorite books is I Kissed the Baby by Mary Murphy. We have been reading this since she was one month old. Now, she is about 20 weeks old and looks forward to reading it every night. As soon as I pull it out of the stack, she becomes instantly silent and her eyes go wide in anticipation. What makes this book extra appealing to a new baby? The high contrast black and white illustrations instantly catch her eye. They caught her attention even when she was a newborn. The text design moves around the page, which also creates a visual element for her to study. As she grew and her sight improved, she began to focus on the bright spots of color that some pages feature. For instance, the baby duck is bright yellow. She also enjoys the repetition of the text, which is sing-song in nature. For instance one double-page spread feature two animals conversing: “I fed the baby! Did you feed the baby? / Yes, I fed the baby, what a hungry little one.”Lately, in her fourth month, she has begun to love it when I act out some of the text’s movements with her. For instance “I tickled the baby! Did you tickle the baby?” At this point, I tickle her. She likes “I kissed the baby, did you kiss the baby?” even more – because I give her a giant, loud, smacking kiss. Evidently, this is hysterical. Also, this book is perfect for two voices. Her daddy and I often read it to her together. While she doesn’t have a big (or little) sibling, this would be wonderful to read in two voices with an older sister or brother, too.I love, love this book, and - more importantly - so does my baby. Try the board book, if you want a format perfect for little hands, little mouths, and little teeth!

Wonderful book for babies
We received this book when my daughter was 3 months old and a year later it's still one of her favorites. She loves the simple, bold illustrations, the question and answer style of the writing and she claps with delight at the end when the little duck gets kissed by its mother. Some books just have a little magic in them for whatever reason and this is one. I have taken to calling my daughter a "wriggly giggly thing" and I believe she knows just where the reference comes from. We have a lot of children's books but this one is definitely in the Top 5 for both my husband and myself and our daughter. Destined to become a classic in our household.

Perfect baby gift additon!
I specifically sought this book out for gifting to friends because all our kids loved this simple book, and so did I. It is great for baby's developing eyes - black adn white with very few other colors and simple shapes. It's just a sweet, fun book and is one of my go-to baby gifts

Simple but sweet
Cute book, but dont exoect anything long or complex. Also the quality is like that of any other board book- it will definitely get beat up and start to show wear and tear after while lol. I bought I bunch of these black and white books when my son was a baby after reading about the benefits of white/black contrasting for their little eyes to interpret best. He really did love this one (along with a lot of silliness from me and inflection in my voice). We still have this book almost 6 years later and will read on occasion for giggles and to reminisce on his babyhood!

My now 6month old and l love reading this and have since we got it when he was about 4 months. I even recite it to him when we are in the car or without books to calm and comfort him. It is such a sweet story and them images are perfect; mostly black and white with a bright color or two on each page. This is our favorite book. I ordered it after falling in love with "I like it when" also by Mary Murphy. We're very happy with both of these books.

Good board book for new babies
Purchased for a new mom - she loved it and I know my baby loved high contract board books in his first few weeks too! Great for developing strong eye sight.

Lovely book for a baby
Lovely book with a heart warming story about a new baby bird. The illustrations are black and white and really appeal to my baby. There is a surprise appearance from the chic at the end in full colour which further delights my baby. The book arrived promptly and well packaged with a lovely little note from Lynda’s bookshop store. I will be buying more books from this supplier in the future. Thank you Lynda.

Buy this book!
My daughter recommended this book to me as a shower gift. The simple shapes catch the attention of very young children so it is a great choice for a new baby. I have added one into many shower gifts and always received good feedback from the parents.
