Works great!
Deer scram works great as long as you apply it as directed. You need to continue to apply regularly to keep the deer away from your plants.

Better than anything else I've tried
Deer Scram is easy to apply, and mostly it works. Hungry deer are difficult to deter, and so far there is NOTHING out there that completely stops them except proper deer fencing. However Deer Scram will provide a level of deterrence that I have not previously found with any other application product. It smells a little weird, but not objectionable. I sprinkle it broadly across the unfenced part of my yard, about an 18" wide swath, then I sprinkle it around my particularly vulnerable plants, such as roses. I re-sprinkle about once every three weeks and when I let it go too long I get deer browsing. Unfortunately, since deer are creatures of habit, once they discover the "salad" in your yard they are harder to deter. That's when I ramp up my efforts and sprinkle a little extra in their favorite areas. If I keep it up, they will move on to some other more delicious yard. I am willing to do this because it's easy to use, doesn't stink and is good for the soil. Otherwise I'd be growing salvia's and rosemary, turning off my sprinkler system and limiting my gardening addiction to pots inside a fence. Which is what I probably ought to do anyway. But an addict's an addict...

It works! Keeps deer and rabbits out! Minimal unpleasant odor
I have a serious deer and rabbit problem. Last year they ate my garden to ground. This year I have gotten serious about closing the "salad bar" down. I have hostas and hydrangeas in my woodland garden which have been ravaged by deer. I purchased Deer Scram based on other positive reviews. I initially bought the small 1 gallon bucket and have recently purchased the 5 gallon bucket because it works. I use a heavy application at approach points (deer trails into my yard) and then a lighter application around the periphery. So far, great results. I see deer in the evening standing and grazing in my neighbors yards. I had three next door yesterday evening. I was afraid to check the garden in the morning figuring I would have a nothing left of my hosta. I was very pleased to not find a single leaf eaten. I do reapply after heavy or prolonged rains. There is a slight pungent odor during and right after application, but it is not strong enough to run you out of the garden and the next day it is almost completely gone. While I use it as a periphery treatment, I have applied it around a few of the more appealing hosta plants that get eaten first. I presume I have rabbits living within the periphery boundary. This here and there treatment appears to have deterred their eating of the hostas as well. While I see rabbits in neighboring yards, I have not seen one in mine. I also use two other deterrents, one is the Scarecrow motion activated sprinkler Contech CRO101 Scarecrow Motion Activated Sprinkler . I use it at the deer trail entry point from the woods. If a heavy rain should diminish the potency of the Deer Scram, I have it as secondary system. My second alternative defense is Repellex Systemic Animal Repellant Repellex 20003 150-Count Systemic Animal Repellent . It is a tablet that contains capsaicin (hot pepper)and has a chemical agent that permits it transfer into the root system of the plant and then be carried throughout the plant structure, rendering my plants not so tasty. I like the redundant systems and so far I have been able to enjoy watching my garden grow this year. Last year at this point there was so much damage I did not want to go out to it. Now I can enjoy a relaxing stroll through my garden after work with glass of wine.

Definitely works!
Watching from our back deck and through the windows of our home, we witness deer actively avoiding the areas where we have spread Deer Scram. Furthermore, it doesn't need to be reapplied after every rainfall! The money it saves in damage is far more than the cost of this product. We love it, and will buy it again when we eventually run out.

So Far So Good & Smells OK
I've been using this product only for 1.5 months, mainly to protect evergreens (mostly rhododendrons) in the winter. Normally a good snow pushes the deer to munch on my evergreens and we've had 3 separate decent snowfalls so far, and all good so far. But I will update this review after winter.I really want to like this product because it smells and acts like fertilizer, and it is very good for protecting things within a boundary like say a raised bed since you can sprinkle just on the perimeter. And it comes with a nice bucket which will be useful or can be recycled. Note that because I've learned from those with the most expertise that you can't rely on just 1 defense, I also use a spray directly on the leaves and I also dump my coffee grounds on the plants (I found this to work by accident for other plants in the summer).UPDATE AFTER 2020-2021 WINTERIt clearly works. I sprinkled this stuff every month, starting late fall, and absolutely everything I sprinkled was untouched by the deer... evergreen plants that the deer have munched on in the winter for years. And the several larger evergreens that I did NOT protect were munched on. But note that I also used a spray (only in the fall before snow) and I also used coffee grounds thru the entire winter.

wear gloves
Really works, after the first day all creatures cease to come back and eat my plants and flowers. I would recommend wearing disposal type of gloves, so your hands don't smell. Great cost, easy to be used and amount of material covers a lot of area. Also comes with its on scooper.DOC

No longer working.
This worked really well for us all last year in 2023 up until the winter. I just started using it again this month, March 2024, and the deer do not seem to be bothered by it at all. Truly disappointing. I will need to find another option for deer control.
