Sturdy and tall enough to be seen
Other labels I've used were either so flimsy that one hit the hose would knock them out of place, or so small that they get get "lost" in the dirt. I would end up running over them with the tractor and my tiller ends up finding thousands of broken plastic pieces in my garden next season. The Rapiclip labels solve both problems. These 6" labels are tall enough that even after being stuck into the ground a fair amount you can still easily see them. The longer 8" ones seem to get poor reviews so I ordered 400 of these and I couldn't be more pleased. No more guessing where my plants are! The bright white plastic is easily seen through all the weeds. They are _very_ sturdy; much thicker than you'd expect from plant labels. Yet they still have plenty of "give" to them so they will survive a swipe from the hose, being run over by a tractor (depending on the angle), or being stepped on by intoxicated backyard party-goers. They might even stand up to a line trimmer, but I haven't tried that yet. If you hit some hard clay while poking them into the soil they do have a tendency to bend, so you do have to be careful at times. The number one complaint from folks seems to be the small circular indentation on one side from the manufacturing process. This does make it difficult to neatly write on that side. If you're using a sharpie, the edges on that circle will tear up your felt tip. If you're a pencil person then the shiny surface of that circle is bothersome. But here's the trick: Turn the label over and use the other side. That was easy, eh? With few exceptions, the only reason you'd need the other side labeled is if you've taught your plants how to read. Even then, the plant probably already knows what variety it is. There's still enough space left on that side to write on if you _really_ need both sides labeled. There's a hole punched in the pointy end that you could use to attach it to your cages or what not. But there are better/cheaper solutions for labeling stems and cages IMHO.I use a Sharpie for writing on them because it writes so quickly and I like the high visibility. Yes, pemanent marker _can_ fade in the sun. I face them away from the sun and haven't had any problems with fading. If you'd rather use pencil then be sure to use the #1/1B type. 1B pencils can be hard to find at the local MegaMart. If your wife is an artist you can probably borrow one from her expensive pencil set. Wipe the garden dirt off of the pencil before returning it or she'll find out and unpleasant words will be exchanged. Trust me on this.

review of product-labels
If they were just a bit sturdier, they'd be easier to push into the ground. They have good visibility in the garden and are easy to write on. I like the large pkg. size; we have lots of plants!

Sharpie fades off
A Sharpie permanent marker faded off of this plastic in less than 2 weeks in outdoor garden. Sad.

Avid Gardner
I've purchased the 8" versions of these markers and they lasted years. These 6" ones work fine for me. Permanent markers don't remain readable after a few springs/summers in the garden. So far, self-made P-Touch labels work great! No problem w/ attaching those labels to either side which includes the side w/ the raised molded extrusion.

We recently bought a house and I am super excited that I finally can have my own garden
I purchased the Luster Leaf Rapiclip 6-Inch Garden Plant Labels - 50 Pack so that I hopefully can figure out which plants are which in my new garden. We recently bought a house and I am super excited that I finally can have my own garden. The problem is I don’t know what a weed is and what a plant is. To give myself a hand, I need to label the plants so if I don’t know what it is; I can just look it up on the internet. I bought a 50 pack, because I need lots of help. I am also using these in my herb garden. The herb garden was already started, but I want to add a few herbs. I had some plants growing already so I was able to label them.I haven’t put them in the big garden yet, but I have in the herb garden, as it started to grow a couple weeks ago. They were easy to write on, and I think they will hold up good in the rain and the sun. They will work well while the plants are little, but will be hard to see when the plants are larger. I hope that I can identify the plants then.Cons-When the plants get tall you won’t be able to see themPros-You shouldn’t need them too much anymore when the plants are tall-Easy to write on-Work well in the dirt-Will hold up in the rain and sun (I think)-Not obnoxious looking in a garden

Use pencil and they’re reusable!
This is my first season gardening with these plant markers but I’m really liking how durable and sturdy they are. I took the tip from another review to use pencil and have already reaped the benefits of being able to erase the plant marker for reuse.

High Quality
Thick plastic and high quality plant tags. Unfortunately still made in China. Kind of long tags, which may be good for your purposes, but they were a bit too long for mine. I will be returning for this reason but product is good quality.

Great for seedlings but not the garden
I've been buying these for a few years now. I like the size and thickness and they are easy to write on. My main complaint is that they get very brittle with age and/or sun exposure (UV light). I like to label the seedlings and then keep the label with the plant when I transplant it into the garden. I have a few that have survived for whatever reason, but most get very brittle and snap easily after a year in the garden.

Great
As advertised. Easy to write on, lots of room and very, very sturdy. This came in a bubble wrap envelope and was securely packaged. My only problem was I thought I'd ordered more than 50, but that was my fault!
