One of The best book ever made

To know the history of mycology means to be a mycologist yourself at least by half...
This is a unique book. The only one presenting a detailed, full and specified review on the development of the mycology science from the beginning up to the 1960-s. Near all its milestones at different fields and bright personalities are covered and richly illustrated by portrates, plates and pages from the original antique sources. Authored by the one of the most notable mycologists of the 20th century, G.C. Ainsworth, the book can provide valuable help to all interested in fungal science and its history and in teaching and learning mycology too. A little pity, that the book paper`s quality does not allow to enjoy illustrations (some originally made in colour) in full. strongly recommended to all intersted in mycology and history of science.

Introduction to the History of Mycology
Ainsworth is of course a giant in this field. That said, the detail is nonetheless breathtaking. I am aware of no better history of this subject anywhere in the English language. Easily followed with any desired purpose for extraction of knowledge about the beginnings of Mycology. You will know the struggles and thinking of the founders.
