No much good if you can't speak Gaelic/Irish
I bought this book as living in the UK you don't often come across Irish names and needed some inspiration. Although it has plenty of names included, along with their background and an indication as to whether the name is male or female, there are no pronunciations. Considering the majority of Irish names are pronounced very differently to how they are spelt, the book isn't much good if you have no way to determine this. Luckily for me, the other half is fluent in Gaelic and so has read the names to me like a story book, but if you don't have a similar option, I wouldn't recommend this book.

Real Irish Names
All names are actual Irish names and not the anglicised version like most books I've come across.

Good starting point, some popular names missing.
Good book for expecting parents to come up with names. Did find a lot of common Irish names missing i.e. Turlough, but a good starting point.

Felt like I had to be Irish to understand this book
Terrible, the explanations of the names was very convoluted, really felt like this book was made only for the Irish or more specifically Gallic speakers and there really weren't that many names in the book. Total waste of money, buy a different book.

Historical name resource if you truly want a real Irish name
For parents looking for an authentic Irish name, this book offers a lot of information, mostly historical, on the names that are included; however, the quantity of names included is limited (it's a pretty slim book compared to other baby-name books out there). For parents who want an Anglicized Irish name that will be possible for people outside of Ireland to pronounce, this is probably not the book for you. Also, the names are not separated by gender, so that's either a plus or a minus depending on how you look at it. If you know the gender of your baby and don't want to spend time reading names for the other gender, this may annoy you. But if you interested in reading the history about all the names in the book, regardless of gender, you might like this format. It would have been nice to have the pronunciation of each name next to the name itself rather than in the back of the book.
