249418 Automotive Sandable Primer Spray, 12 oz, Black

I recently switched from a grey primer to Rust-Oleum’s black sandable primer for all my 3D-printed helmets and props, and I’m genuinely impressed. First off, the price is great—this 12-ounce can won’t break the bank, even when you’re covering full-size pieces. I sprayed two light coats on a full-scale helmet and still had plenty left over for a half-scale mask, which felt like a real bargain compared to other brands I’ve tried. What really sold me was the spray consistency. The aerosol tip delivers a smooth, even mist every time—no sputtering, no drips, no frustrating runs to sand out later. Even on tricky curves and recessed details, the primer settles perfectly, filling in light layer lines without obscuring fine sculpting. It’s forgiving enough that you don’t need perfect technique to get a great result. But the best part? The deep matte black finish makes imperfections practically leap out at you once you start sanding. Any high spots, pinholes, or rough patches are instantly obvious against the dark background—something I missed for years when using lighter greys. That little bonus has saved me hours of worrying over unseen flaws and made my final paint jobs much smoother. Great quality primer with very good adhesion and coverage. Sticks to multiple surfaces like wood, plastic (PLA/PETG/ABS etc.) and metal without problems and dries even and very fast. We bought it multiple time and will do so in the future.

I'm a cosplayer and I'm frequently making props and accessories for my next costumes, which heavy relies on post processing of my 3D prints. This fills in all the print lines while also laying down primer for your paint. It dries in a chalky layer that is easy to sand and won't come off in flakes. The color is a great neutral base to paint over. I recommend going in with a light hand as this stuff is thick and very covering!

Touching up a white car using the usual red sandable primer is a headache -- you have to spray a lot more color coat over it to make sure the red is hidden, and there always seems to be some show-through. I found this Rustoleum white primer and gave it a try, I'm happy with the results. I used it on a warm day and let it dry overnight.A spot looked like it got a lot of overspray, but the primer wet sanded smooth. I applied another light coat and let it dry for a couple of hours, then wet sanded with 400 and 600 grit paper and sprayed on a Dupli-color match. No orange peel or any other problems were encountered. The Amazon price was among the lowest and definitely beat the home improvement and auto stores.

Love Rust-Oleum always. This stuff is always my go to for a black primer..can also use as a matte top coat. As long as you seal it with matte clear it comes out awesome as a top coat. Almost a satin. Fast shipping and great price!

This stuff is garbage .It cracks as it dries making a lot of extra work sanding this crap
