Just go to NCARG.org way more usefull and consise
Not what I was expecting. It started out with an Ayn Rand quote which made me want to vomit and made me feel prejudice that the most self-glorifying architects organized it. The book is largely just a series of quotes from architects in the field about your thoughts on various questions. There where so many it felt a bit bland after page after page of brief blurbs on the same topic. I was expecting something a bit more concise about the path, more like an expanded version of what is on the NCARB.org/becoming-an-architect.aspx page for becoming an architect. I wish I had saved the money. There is a newer version, maybe it is better. It is definitely aimed for 6 - 12 graders, which didn't feel clear when review.

not bad
The book is really nothing but a bunch of interview questions and the answers architects give to them, which isn't a bad thing. There are several pictures of architectural structures, several drawings, and some diagrams of buildings as well. Instead of reading a concise summary of the authors research you instead get the raw data (for the most part) and draw your own conclusions from it.I kept seeing a few similar traits over and over in the architects the author interviewed and this led me to not become an architect.I did find it rather interesting that the author is NOT an architect and never was. But you don't have to be something in order to research it and write about it now do you? Of course not. The author did however pursue the field of architecture so they do have some first hand knowledge to draw on.A very good book in my opinion, it was worth the purchase.

Detailed, Step by Step Guide
I'm a high school senior. I purchased this book the summer before my senior year started to make sure architecture was the major I was going to really want to apply to, and did this help. The guide is so detailed you'll really be able to "plan" your life for the next ten to fifteen years. You know which way your career will most likely go and where it will end up. Architecture is not for the faint of heart; it is a lot of work, time, and sitting in front of a computer. Since then, I've been accepted into college to study architecture and will continuously refer back to parts of this guide.

Would be a good book...
only purchase a properly printed, factory edition of this book. There's some misprints inside this one that makes it almost impossible to read certain chapters.

Quality Guide
I bought this as a gift for my young nephew who has been interested in architecture for a long time. He LOVED this book, and even now as a university architecture student, he still keeps it handy for occasional reference.

Excellent insight into the obtuse career known as Architecture
Excellent insight into the obtuse career known as Architecture. Although redundant at times, the book clarifies the mystery behind the process of completing the prerequisites to become a certified architect. Also includes information on almost all the paths that one can take to become an architect and includes individual opinions of all the different schools that provide architectural training in North America.
