Unbeatable price for a name brand, proven radiometer.

The media could not be loaded. This is the RD1503, not to be confused with the RD1503+. Even if its not the latest version, the RD1503 has the essentials in a reasonable sized format.Made in Russia, it is built out of ABS plastic, and a quality Nokia LCD display. Fit and finish are very good. RD1503 can take readings in uSv/h or mR/h with minimum 30 second reading for calculation. It uses the proven Soviet SBM-20 Geiger-Muller tube, which is superior to Chinese tubes used by other consumer grade competitors and DIY kits. Requires two AAA batteries. This radiometer includes calibration certification. I tested the calibration against a vintage Pripyat RKS 20.03 by measuring gamma detection (used a metal lid to block Beta particles) from a thoriated gas lamp mantle, and the 30 second readings where very close, yet the RD1503 is more recent technology that uses a single GM tube, at a fraction of the price of the Pripyat. TThe price from this vendor is an absolute steal, and the unit received is brand new. The instruction manual is extensive. It is clearly a translation from Russian, but it’s understandable enough. it would have been nice if it included a fitted Beta particle shield for Gamma only measurement, but one can easily remedy this with some DIY shielding. Shipping was fast, considering it is not prime shipping, and, its shipped from the US.

Surprising what can be radioactive. Amazing!

Awesome! We tested the rocks we inherited from my father in-law, and found that a couple of them were radioactive to the tune of about 4 microsieverts per hour. Good to know.

Great deal

This has an actual Geiger Muller tube. You won't find one cheaper than this. I found out how scary my old radium watch is. 5.7 mSv/hour.

Not accurate

Incredible by on an older radiometer. However, read 20 to 50 times too high. Returned
