Movie is great. Condition I got my movie not so
So I ordered this movie Brand new. What I got was a used copy. It was not even wrapped. Opened, disk had some scuffing but still played in the player. So disappointing to spend that much on a brand new movie to get a used copy!

An entertaining Christmas Romantic Comedy
It all began 13 years ago when two kids began sending emails to each other. Now they're grown, they've been pen pals for a long time and have become best friends. They've never met and, when given the chance to do so try desperately (but unsuccessfully) to get out of it. They're very unsure of themselves. A little shyness and a little too much modesty is not a bad thing, until you carry it to excess. And that excess began years ago when they exchanged photographs: both of them sent, not photos of themselves, but of someone else. And now they talk both of those someone else's into playing them when they're forced to meet. The two someone else's wind up liking each other very much, too much in fact -- the two pen pals quickly grow jealous at how their replacements are hitting it off so well with their dear friend. It's a fun and funny movie; I always find myself laughing at parts of it. The two pen pals are the more romantic, sincere types: happy to find one person to settle down with; their replacements are a playboy and a young woman who likes that kind of guy. They honestly do try to help their friends as they've promised, but they're just too different. And they really do like each other. If you like a nice Christmas romance, and if you're not put off by a few moderate references to sex -- there aren't a lot of those -- you may well like this movie. It has some fine moments, even beyond some of the funny lines, as the two replacements try to pretend they know the other but just can't bring it off.

Very little plausibility or Christmas spirit
Two young children begin a pen-pal relationship while in sixth grade. The film starts when they are both young adults and his job takes him to Boston, where she lives and works. To this point, they have corresponded only by written word, but they decide that given the proximity, they should meet. At this point, the first implausibility arises. Each of them has been lying to the other, having sent photographs of friends rather than of themselves. So in planning the meeting, each convinces the friend whose photograph was used to go to the meeting instead. Thus, the supposed meeting of two long-time friends actually involves neither of them.Oddly, this first meeting offers, I think, the funniest moments of the film as the two stand-ins try to remember all the facts they have tried to memorize. For instance, he offers condolences to her on the loss of her dog. She, hearing the name and not connecting it with a dog, thinks that the loss must be an ex-boyfriend and notes that, truthfully, he was a lousy kisser. There are a couple of misunderstandings like this that are fairly humorous, albeit in a contrived way.At least one other reviewer has questioned the appropriateness of this film for family members. There is rather a lot of kissing, including one scene involving chocolate syrup that probably would make parents uncomfortable explaining to a pre-teen. So I think that reviewer's concern is appropriate. The biggest problem, at least to me, though, is the lack of real emotion and the contrivances in this film. At no time did I ever believe in either of the main characters or the resolution. For much better films dealing with epistolary relationships, I recommend 84 Charing Cross Road and Japanese Wife . For a better Christmas film dealing with new relationships, I recommend The Christmas Wife (which is better for adults not because of objectionable material but because of its maturity) or even Miracle on 34th Street .

Wy not tell the truth.
I'm a fan of Marla Sokoloff. Have been for a long time now, ever since I saw her as a kid in whatever it was. I bought "Christmas In Boston" just because it starred her and I'm pretty satisfied with that decision because this turned out to be a perfect christmas warmer. A lie is never a good choice and when you lie about yourself it always end up bad. So a word of wisdom, never send a picture not showing you to somebody you like. It's only a recipe for disaster. Having shared letters for many years it is finally time to meet had it not been for the fact that none has sent photos of their true self but their better looking best friends (what a load of crock - when all cast is good looking). So instead of meeting in real life both send their friends, who happens to fall in love and the tangled web becomes even thicker. If this kind of mixed-up drama gets on your nerves then please do not watch this movie. If you're a sucker for some good old romance then this might be right up yóur alley. Not as annoying as movies of this ilk can be "Christmas in Boston" has its charm and made for a weelcomed brief in all the hysteria surrounding the holidays.Anders Ekdahl Christmas in Boston

Love this Christmas movie!
I got a library copy of the movie and other than having the library stickers still on the case, this product was like new. Literally, I don't think anyone ever watched this dvd before. The film itself is tarting to show its age [2005] so my mom and I had fun pointing out the differences in clothing, electronics and general style from 10 years ago. This movie is a good contender for all the ones you can watch on the hallmark channel.

An enjoyable Christmas misadventure based on confused identities of former long distance lovers.
A kind of silly Christmas romp involving two sets of friends with anonymous identities. Throw in some corporate intrigue and lots of merriment, including one tepid kitchen scene with chocolate syrup, and you have the ingredients for laughable entertainment. Enjoy!

Christmas In Boston - Easy going seasonal flick.
I first viewed the trailer for Christmas in Boston on another DVD. I am a big collector of Christmas movies and start enjoying them as soon as August. From the trailer I figured this would be a pretty good movie to pull out and watch every Christmas, and that is exactly what it is. I would however categorize this movie as a Romantic Comedy rather than Family. If you liked the trailer, you will like the movie... it is exactly what it appears to be and of course like many romantic comedies... it is predictable.CHRISTMAS IN BOSTON - (SPOLIER ALERT - as noted on the DVD jacket)What started as a sixth-grade pen pal project turns into a topsy-turvy romantic mishap when Gina and Seth... now all grown up... finally decide to meet in person. They have a life long friendship based on letters, but there's one little problem... the photos they exchanged were of their better-looking best friends. As a last-resort solution, they each send their best friends to meet instead, and a convoluted series of comical situations ensue, especially when the magic of Christmas inspires the two friends to fall in love. But soon the truth is revealed and they learn a little lesson about self-confidence and being honest with those we love.Good luck with your movie selections:)Kim

Disappionted
I first seen this movie under the title "Instant Message" and it was way better under that title. 'Christmas In Boston' you don't get the first five minutes which is the two main charaters history. I don't know why they dropped the beginning because without it the movie doesn't make as much sence. Very disappionting!
