Five years in Hawaii left me with two long lasting loves of the islands, a fondness for Aloha shirts and Spam. It also made me a bit of a shirt snob with very specific criteria for what is a 'proper' Aloha shirt. It should be printed and made in Hawaii, the pocket should match the shirt pattern and the buttons should be wood. All these are of course true for the Paradise Lost shirts, one of the oldest of shirt stores on Oahu. It is still there and I recommend you pay it a visit if you are out that way, it is eclectic and they have a collection covering all eras of Aloha shirts.With that background the Paradise Lost shirt is a fantastic example of the traditional Aloha shirt. The reason so many of their patterns were used in Magnum PI is because they were a store nearby. That is also the reason they are about $20 more than an equal quality shirt, that is what you pay for the iconic patterns. The shirt quality s great. The sizing is large, it would equate well to Duluth sizes, where everything runs large by design. A Hawaiian shirt is not meant to be tight, so if you are after a smedium you will likely need to order at least a size smaller if not two. If you wear a large normally then this short will be closer to an extra large in size. Of course if you make a mistake and machine dry it, it will be a size or two smaller than it was, so hand washing and air drying is a must.

Comfy lightweight and classic, if you want to look a little different from the blue and white t shirts in summer rock one of these, they are the original brand for this type of shirt many try an copy it but in cotton, this is Rayon so its super soft, comfy and light for the hot sun. This is the brand used by Magnum PI both original and remake Tom S wore this and so does Jay Hernandez, Classic cool looks great on the boat or in the Ferrari!

The reviews for these shirts regarding size are spot on. I almost always wear a large shirt and was hesitant to step down a size. However the consensus that these run big seemed to be fairly prevalent, so I took a leap of faith and ordered the medium. I'm glad I did. The medium fits me perfectly in all dimensions.I've owned a few other "Hawaiian/aloha" shirts in the past that just felt cheap, too heavy or both. These are definitely worth the money. The fabric is high quality (not too heavy or too light), the prints are beautiful, they match the pockets to the print and the buttons are made of bamboo. I'll definitely be ordering a few more of these. Mahalo.
