Q: Is there anyway to remove the metal backing from the crystal itself?

You could probably use some metal snips to clip the loop off but I don’t think it would be possible to remove the base piece...it seems to be very soundly glued on.

pointy like nails some are have hope few are flat but most of the one i got are pointy ....love them

I am not 100% sure. But it could probably be carefully pryed away from the metal casing.

Q: Are these machines washable?

They should be because they can be attached to anything just like you would when sewing on a button. I used mine to make a tufted round coffee table which turned out beautifully. They are very clear and look expensive.
