Danger Lights

one of the best railroad movies you'll find
This is one the best movies to show the aspects of the way railroading was in those days, don't pay to much attention to the plot after all it is an old movie, but the railroad scenes are the best I have ever seen. Two things to watch for, the tug of war, and greasing the journal on the way to Chicago.

A good prewar movie about a RR family
A good prewar movie about a RR family. There is a lot of action with steam trains.

Interesting Film Beautifully Filmed
Interesting early talkie is beautifully filmed, giving viewers a railroad trip from Montana to Chicago while telling a standard love-triangle story. Print on the Alpha DVD is pretty good, being full-length and not the 20 minute shorter TV print commonly seen. This was originally filmed simultaneously in a 63mm wide-screen process called Naturalvision. Only two theaters ever showed this version, which no longer exsists. Musicals were out of fashion in late 1930, so RKO filmed this with a quasi-documentary look, similar to their other film in release at the time, THE SILVER HORDE, which features many scenes of a salmon cannery in operation. DANGER LIGHTS offers something different to the viewer, and something essential for railroad buffs.

Cinematography and Trains!
Although the streaming print has poor image quality and audio, and a standard love triangle plot, it is worth watching for Karl Struss' incredible location photography circa 1930. What a master. And all those beautiful trains !! I am going to seek out a better print.

Great Steam Locomotive Movie
Great movie for steam buffs. The plot is average and predictable, almost corny. But remember it is an early talking movie. However, there is a long scene of the inside of a round house repair facility. Also a push-of-war between two steam locomotives. Well worth a watch.

Railway workers
I studied the Knights, and the Big Four unions... this added flesh to the stories. Watch it if you're into workers' social consciousness: this is how they work together. Solidarity wins out!

DANGER LIGHTS
THE BEST RAILROAD MOVIE TO COME OUT OF THE 1930'S. THE LOCOMOTIVE TUG OF WAR FIGHT IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE MOVIE. WOLHEIM AND ARMSTRONG ARE PERFECT IN THEIR ROLES AS COMPETITIVE RAILROAD MEN IN LOVE WITH JEAN ARTHUR.THE CLIMAX OF THE FILM IS A 100 MPH FLIGHT OF MERCY TO SAVE WOLHEIM'S LIFE.IF YOU LOVE RAILROADS LIKE I DO YOU HAVE TO GET THIS MOVIE. For Jean Arthur freaks!
I bought this film solely on the fact that it featured one of my favourite actresses, Jean Arthur. The soundtrack is very bad (at least on my equipment it seemed that the sound was confined to the right channel) and since there are no subtitles you should watch this film with headphones. Otherwise it's quite difficult to follow the dialogue. Particularly if you are not a native englishspeaking person. The soundtrack is however free from background music which I think is a plus .The plot is a rather straightforward romantic one, which almost always is the case with a Jean Arthur movie. What makes this movie stand out and makes me rate this as a "3" is the outstanding acting performance by Louis Wolheim.(And many of the other actors as well. Come to be famous actor Robert Armstrong is however rather mediocre.) When checking his name in the IMDB I found out that he died in 1931 which perhaps explains why his name isn't listed on the cover of this DVD despite the fact that he ought to be listed as the main actor. In short: 1)If you are a Jean Arthur fan, buy this.2) If you're interested in a career that never was, i.e. Louis Wolheim's, buy this.3) If you're into romantic films from the 30's, buy this.

Good stuff ; still entertaining.
From a time when you must pick and choose your movies carefully ; some are dreadfully boring and senseless ,sometimes having silent stars trying to make the switch ( some succeeded , some bombed ) This one is a veryviewable gem . Good plot ; washed out ex-railroad man gets another chance , damn upstart goes after the bossesgirl. Danger and drama ensue. Great footage of old steam locomotives in passing and as background in various scenes.Get it for this alone ; in one brief scene we see something I have never seen ( but when you think about it , of course they didit !! ). Two locomotives go cowcatcher to cowcatcher in a push-the-other-one-back , full head of steam, face off !!A good story , worth a viewing , and in Glorious Black & White of course!
