This is a great set for beginners, for those not used to the Chinese symbols on pieces because they have the western style graphics on other side. Nice bags for pieces and bigger bag to put all in. Also the board is a ok size and not too small. Thanks so much.

This is the ideal set for someone starting out. The pieces are good quality and has symbols on one side as well as the Chinese characters on the other which is useful for someone more familiar with international chess, like myself. It comes with separate bags for the red and white pieces, a lightweight cloth board and a compact carrying case. This should be your first set if you are just getting into the game!

It comes in a stylish carrying bag that anyone could just throw over one shoulder and take it anywhere. The pieces are made out a HEAVY (heavier than expected!) material, and the pieces have Chinese writing on them on one side and international symbols on the back. So you could introduce this set to a friend and not have them expected to understand Chinese writing. And each set is held by drawstring bags. Very well designed! And the board folds in on itself to complete the mix. This is a set I'd recommend to anyone that is beginning to understand Xiangqi (Chinese chess).

It's about as perfect as a set at this price could possibly be. In fact, I like this set more than the expensive wooden board I got a few years ago. It's certainly easier to carry—I'm impressed by how compact the included travel bag is, yet how big the set is when outside it—and the pieces have convenient westernized versions printed on their undersides, which is essential when trying to convince someone unfamiliar with Chinese characters to play the game with you. I can't wait to play with my friends!

This set of chess pieces is clearly inscribed in red & black both in Chinese (side 1) & Western symbols (side 2).This makes learning the game much easier for beginners with Western chess experience.The plastic pieces are sent in separate cloth bags both in a modified backpack.I can not imagine a more suitable chinese chess set of pieces.

I own five different xiangqi sets. This is my favorite because:1) high quality pieces and board2) international symbols on the other side of each piece3) great carry case for taking the game on the roadI highly recommend this set!
