What are the Dimensions?

14 1/2" L x 3 3/4" W. Answer one if wrong about it not working! I have had it on one of my wooden patio supports (it fits nicely) and it has given correct temperature for several years! Maybe she got a faulty one.

I plan to mount it outside on a tree. Think I should screw or epoxy it to a piece of wood backing first and then attach the whole thing to the tree?

Use epoxy or super glue to attached it to the wooden backing, the use an electric screw driver to attach the wood backing to the tree.
