Perfect for Kindergartners
My granddaughter loved this book. Once read to hear, she remembered the sight words and was able to read it to her younger brother.

The Plot Is Lacking
The illustrations in this book are adorable but the text is all over the map. Even my new reader was confused by what was happening and comprehension is an important part of learning to read. The book starts out decently, with Ed & Fred on the beach. Suddenly they are on horses, then in cars, then a hot air balloon, then under water, then they have dogs, then they’re in a tornado, then on postcards and lastly, they see a giant monster. There isn’t any indication of a change of environment... it just bounces around. I also was confused as to the word choice giant. G saying “j” is a hard concept. Lastly, there is a page with a horse where a portion of the word horse is covered by the character, making it hard for the reader to read. I would recommend BOB books or other beginning readers before this one. This book does have a lot of sight words but there are a lot of early readers that focus on sight words and they have better storylines.

good sight words
It does have over 50 sight words and it was a very easy and entertaining read for my 4 year old. I liked that the words were laid out in the beginning and the end. It is a good book. Only thing I did not like was that some of the humor (although my 4 year old thought was funny) I didn't find very funny at all.

just too long
My 4 yr old likes this book but little too long & doesn't hold his attention at times. Sight words are on point for learning @ this age.

Funny Beginner Reader
Great for my beginning readers. They find the story funny and it is excellent for learning sight words. No problem getting them to read this book.

Really love this book
Really love this book! We have so much fun reading it. I bought it after my 5 year old who is in kindergarten was having a hard time with sight words. She has successfully learned them!

My 6 year old reads Ed, makes me read Fred
Fred can't catch a break. It's silly and that's what makes kids want to read it. Very helpful in learning sight words.

Bolger's books are always excellent. He knows how to make reading fun and the kids don't realize they're getting "teaching".
