The Cabot bleaching Stain does not look like paint.
Very good stain, looks naturaly, not like paint Color is the same as old Cabot bleaching oil. I am very happy with the result.

Oil based
Bought this because it was oil based and I figured it would work better than the new water base products. Time will tell how it holds up.

Dripped stain all over my driveway and front porch
The product was fine but evidently opened slightly and whoever delivered dripped it all on my driveway and front porch and will not come up. Please tell me who delivered this

Goes on more like paint than stain
Used 12 gallons of this stain on our house last year. Love the color but it did need 2 coats and it does go on like paint. I believe I read either from the Cabot site or another reviewer that it lasts up to 5 years. Well this is year 2 and so far so good. I would definitely recommend this product and will use again, hopefully in another 3+ years.

It's not as good as the original oil based product that Cabot made
Since Cabot no longer makes the oil based version of this I tried a gallon of this acrylic version. First the good news is that it is an exact color match for the old product. The not as good news is that it is a heavier coating and thus makes the shingles look more like they have been painted than stained. It's not as heavy as a regular outdoor acrylic paint (like a decking stain) but it is heavy enough to bridge the gaps between tightly spaced shingles thus erasing the gap and you will lose some of the shingle's texture as this fills that in a bit. That results in a somewhat odd look in those places. Now that said, if you have existing shingles that were finished with Cabot's bleaching oil, and you want a newly stained look this is about the only way to go. Oil stains are a dying breed thanks the VOC rules and even an oil based stain (that you can get today) is thicker than the old bleaching oil (it tried several, never could get a good color match and they all left more sheen on the shingles that the new Cabot acrylic). I have no idea if the new acrylic will really bleach the shingles like the old oil product did as it is too early to tell but I do not have a lot of hope that it will do that. Anyway, this is, I think, the best thing you can get right now as a replacement but I sure wish they had discontinued the oil based version.
