Paper Monsters and Curious Creatures: 30 Projects to Copy, Cut, and Fold

Great if you like detailed crafts and models!
I should have read the description a bit more clearly. This book is really great if you have an avid paper-toy fan over the age of 10 that you can trust with sharp tools and the like.I have done paper toy robots and paper toy monsters, and even OiDroids, which are all great for my young kids. Even if the paper toy robots and monsters were a bit complex for them to put together, I could do it by punching them out and folding and gluing, then my kids could play. OiDroids were perfect for my six-year-old, didn't require any glue and he absolutely adores those. No such luck with this book. While the monsters and creatures themselves are really cool, you can't just punch them out of the book and fold and glue. This book requires you to buy card stock, an exacto blade, a stipling tool, etc, etc. The list goes on.Then you have to copy the stencils onto card stock, cut the entire thing out, fold, color, and glue everything. Very detailed, and not something my kids have patience for.If you're really dedicated and crafty, more power to you and I'm sure you will get great enjoyment out of this. For a mom like me, who isn't into this activity except to entertain her young kids, it just isn't practical. I like the punch and fold ones more. Oh well! I guess that's what I get for not reading it closely enough!

It has a lot of details and will need good cutting skills and several cutting tools that can cut
This is not for a beginner paper crafter. First, you will need to copy the patterns as the other side of the paper is a different pattern. It has a lot of details and will need good cutting skills and several cutting tools that can cut, snip, etc. Such includes an awl (piercing holes) and a bone folder (creasing folds). You will also need to color (markers, pens) over some of the features. You will also need to decide the color and weight of the paper that you will copy it on. The author could have split this into 2 or 3 volumes with each volume having more instructional pages. In addition, have the patterns pre-perforated and creased so that it is easier to assemble.

This book is so fun and easy to make 3-D paper Monsters. I have been bringing a new Monster to work each week to place on the front office desk and everyone loves coming in to see what the newest creation will be. Highly recommend all 4 books by this artist.
