Great lamp, but choose the less expensive option
Great light. Problem is with seller. On Amazon there is a choice from this seller for dual or tri color light. One has a white and red lights while the other also includes a green light. I’m fine with either one. The problem is, I ordered the more expensive dual light and received the less expensive tri light. It’s basically the same head lamp, but the one I paid for is like $12 more. I’d love to be refunded the difference. I could have saved the money by just clicking the cheaper light on my order and yet still received the same lamp. So, I’ll see if after my review if anyone fixes this for me. 12$ is significant enough to be concerned. As for the lamps, they’re awesome and bright for mountain trail hikes, which is what they’re being used for. We’re looking at about 2.5 hours in the dark making our way back to civilization after watching sunsets from the top of the mountain. So, overall, I’m happy with the lamp... just wish I’d not been overcharged.

Great for astronomy
I love the Coast FL72 headlamp for astronomy, its white light led's are perfect for setting up and taking down astronomy equipment in the dark. The red led's help to preserve you night vision and to read star charts etc in the dark. What I find most useful is the fact that you can readily turn off the white light with one button and turn on the red led with a separate button without having to cycle thru several modes which can be very annoying. Coast Lightning products are well made, are available in a variety of brightness's, are comfortable to wear and have great run times..They represent a great bang for the buck to anyone needing a hands free light source.

Super bright. Red for turtle safety
This is super bright. We used it to find sharks teeth on a beach in the middle of the night. It's a little creepy seeing all the wolf spider eyes that shimmer with this on though! I like that I can dim it down when a car passes so I don't blind them. It's noticeably brighter for the first hour or few after putting in a fresh battery. But still plenty bright to use for many many hours after. Changing the battery requires taking the band off. But otherwise it's not hardThe red light option is enough to walk at night, particularly during Turtle season when red is all that's allowed on the beach. It's not really bright enough to see objects very well though. It adjusts nicely for different head sizes. And being able to tilt is great. We ended up buying like 6 or 7 so we can keep them handy in different places. We use them all the time.My only complaint is that the band is elastic, and I'm allergic just some elastics. So it's just a bit itchy on my bare skin. But over a hood or ear hearband works great.

Excellent head light
I recently got more of these to add to our stock. Coast has a bunch of models, but these were the closest I could find to the original ones I got at Costco. We've been VERY satisfied with those ones. The main difference with this newer model is that the headband has some little reflective spots or stars on them. Not a bad tweak, but the fundamental functionality is pretty much identical. And that's been great as either a hand-held or head-mounted light. I use them for dog walks after dark and hands-free illumination. Also, the hard hat attachment on this set was much easier to use (for our go bag helmets). Incremental improvements to an already excellent product. Nice work, Coast!

Finally!
I have a total of six coast headlamps (two died, two being returned)...so in essence I’ll really only have these two (from the two-pack). This is most similar to my first one (RIP) that has the dimmer switch and battery pack at the rear of the headband. This design holds the batteries in the actual lamp itself, and it’s an ENORMOUS improvement in design. The only trade off is giving up the continual dimming switch for a simple 3-phase dimmer (low/med/high). But gaining a red lamp and losing the rear battery back as well as losing the exterior wiring along the headband...makes me a very happy camper. Just hope they don’t change this design. May order a second two-pack in fear of a future abandonment of this design. Six stars for this product.

Outclassed much more expensive headlamp
I have many sets of headlamps from Surefire, Petzl, Coast, and Princeton. I gotta tell ya, for about $20 a set, the brightness, length of light projection, and adjustability are incredible!!!!! I have another set from Coast...similar, with the separate battery pack, and 3rd strap...which is great for long night trekking, but for around the neighborhood walks, and some night stalks to my coyote overlook spot...man oh man. These are WELL worth it. I bought extra and put them in my cars. Sorry for my $100+ setups....for the price....these are just so much better.

Awesome deal on a great light!
I've stuck with Coast for a lot of years now and use them at work. The only thing that ever goes bad on these is the elastic head bands, but that's to be expected. The lumens are advertised on all their products so you know what you're getting. These are bright, and the best bargain I've ever seen on a coast. I went to buy one, and when I saw I could pretty much get a two for one, it was a no brainer....

Glad to have two
Used it multiple times on camping trips on middle of the night trips to the restrooms as well as watching a solar eclipse in the desert (used the red light), so as not to get my eyes accustomed to the light. On full mode, it's much brighter than my rechargeable camping lantern. The light doesn't seem to take a lot of battery power since the headlamps have been going strong with the original batteries I put in them, something I can't say for ordinary flashlights! so popular with friends/family that I ended up giving one away and keeping the other.
