Q: I am trying to find something to use for recessed lettering on the valve covers for my Mustang. Is this good for high temperatures?

I would not use this for anything of high temperature application. You need to get Rust-Oleum High Heat Paint and that would work the best for what You want it for. I used it to paint My Headers and complete exhaust system and it still has not burnt Off.

Q: why does description say matte, but then says dries glossy, which is it?

This Testors paint will dry with a Glossy finish to it. The Black however does have a flat dark look to it when it fully dries.
