A moving story about a terrible time in human history
Mario Escobar portrays a story of two young boys lost and alone in a frightening world. The second world war was a horrific time and this book illustrates the worst and best of those who inhabited it. It offers the reader an opportunity to immerse oneself in the fear, terror, hate and brutality of a time in history that should never be forgotten, if only to remind us of the dangers inherent in repeating something that should never be repeated.

In the Heart of WWII France
My Review forChildren of the Starsby Mario Escobar---------------------------------------Children of the Stars by Mario Escobarfollows two young boys, Jacob and Moses,on a crazy, amazing, often heart-breaking journeythrough France during 1942-1943.Their quest was simple: to find their parents. But finding them turned out to be far harder than the boys ever believed possible.Oh, and unlike Auschwitz Lullaby, this one actually ends on a happy note.Along the way, we meet all kinds of folks. We have a chance to learn about the VelodromeVichy France & Germany collaboration, but we also learn about the Free French as well.We bump into sour-puss characters and lively characters, yet all put their lives on the line to help others - and the cool thing is that majority of them were REAL people.I hope Mario Escobar continues writing books like this!Powerful, hard-to-forget characters, accurate dose of history, and a journey in the midst of WWIIwith a light dose of faith challenge. If you enjoyed Kristy Cambron's books, you'll love this one.(I read the e-book version and page numbers didn't appear)I think the hardest part of this whole review is settling on quotes to share... because I shared 17 that struck me!Here are the ones I settled on sharing:"...I've concluded that Nazis are like rats. They nest and reproduce easily, they steal, they spread their disease of intolerance and racism ...and when the ship starts to sink, they get even more dangerous, more daring. They know they'll have hell to pay,so they're taking as many innocent lives down with them as they can."Leducfound in Chapter 9"...It may be that this world will just get messier, but you'll always find good people in it.There are more generous hearts than we might think."Pierre Magne to Jacobfound in Chapter 12"Beauty is one of the things that keeps me believing....Beauty is all around us,though we don't always recognize it."Anna Emdemend of Chapter 18"...The people who love us, even if they have to leave for a while, are always in our hearts."Magda to the boysfound in Chapter 27

Vel' d'Hiv Roundup in Paris France, 1942
Jacob and Moses Stein are two young brothers who escape the round up in Paris, France in 1942. This story is their fictional journey in attempting to reconnect with their parents.I appreciated that the writing style was easy to read, no foul language nor extreme violence used --overall a good story.
