Its an adaptor
It works but you need to have access to a USB socket as it needs power.

Seamless: Works exactly as expected
I have a 2008 Mac Pro which has one DVI output and one VGA output. Until recently I was using a second VGA monitor as an extended desktop display, but it began to show its age and started to flicker. Next to the main display on the opposite side of the extended display I have a Samsung TV which has no VGA input. So I hoped the VENTION VGA to HDMI Adapter would allow me to use this TV as a replacement monitor. Being a Mac user, when it comes to inexpensive gadgets, you tend to get used to seeing the dreaded phrase "Windows Only" in the product description, or no specific mention of Mac support at all. But for the price I took a chance on this occasion, and was very happy to see it worked seamlessly right out of the box. It outputs a sharp image and has its own Colour Profile, so that apps moved from the main screen to the second display look the same from one desktop to the next. If I had to be picky, the short length of the supplied cables aren't ideal if you're unlucky enough to not have a spare USB power supply right next to the VGA output port to the rear of your PC - and I do mean RIGHT next to it, as the cable is only a few centimetres long. It might also have been a nice if an HDMI cable was included, and the included 3.5mm stereo audio male to male jack was a little longer too, but - for the price - you can work around these issues with other solutions, and the device itself works exactly as advertised. I should also add what others have mentioned, but is worth reiterating, that this is a one way only conversion - that's to say, you cannot convert an HDMI output to VGA. But there are other solutions available which will do this.

VGA, Laptop to HDMI, TV
My Laptop, 15 years old -Toshiba with Windows Vista!! - to Panasonic (newish TV) did not work correctly. Windows boot-up across screen scroll bar seen but after that nothing. However, using my Ryzen 5 Desktop PC with a plug-in NVIDIA Card (old Geforce GT 730) to the Panasonic TV, all was fine. Good picture etc.Probably the onboard graphics card on laptop was the problem.A more modern Laptop should be OK??Leads are not too long and the unit needs to be charged/connected to a USB outlet. Cable is provided. This lead is VGA - Male to HDMI-female. Consequently a short HDMI lead! is needed to connect from the unit - male to male which not provided.

didn't work for me
Does not work lol. Brought this to plug my chrome cast (Hdmi) into my monitor (VGA) as I have an extra monitor which uses VGA and thought to use it for the chrome cast with this adapter. (I have little space in my room for a big TV lol). Anyways did not work am sure it may work with a connection going out but probably not going in. (yes I had all cables connected (power, audio)).
