Relentless: (Tina Boyd: 2): the razor-sharp thriller from London’s darker corners from bestselling author Simon Kernick

Relentless
RelentlessThe second in a series of books featuring DS Tina Boyd. Slightly misleading that claim given that Boyd hardly features in the book apart from two brief segments. In fact Boyd is no longer in the police as it becomes apparent that she has resigned owing to how the police dealt with a particular internal matter. An individual receives a phone call that may change their life and not for the better. During that call they hear a person being murdered and the victim giving their assailants the individuals name and address. Are they next on the killers list? They decide to relocate just to be on the safe side. What follows can only be described as twenty-four hours of mayhem. Murder, kidnapping, false arrest and betrayal are all to the fore. Someone has something that someone else wants and they will stop at nothing to get it. Nobody knows what it is and who has it although they are all suspicious of each other and nobody really knows who is willing to go to such lengths in order to get it.The individuals will to survive comes through though a heavy price may be required in order to achieve that objective. The result is all that is matters and each character in the story has that first and foremost in their thoughts. Contrasting agendas and contradictory impulses lead to bloody conclusions and nobody walks away from this unscathed. That includes Tina Boyd even with her limited involvement.Good book.

Another cracking read but I have a query.
Strange how this is Tina Boyd number 2 in the series but she only had a bit part in this. Despite that, and I am sure it will become clear later in the series, this is a great read. It intertwines nicely with the Dennis Milne series and throws more light on those stories.Again, we have some great twists and turns to keep you guessing as to which are the good cops. Nicely written and constructed to pass the time reading. This really is an ace author!!

Mindless
A feeble attempt to write a thriller, with the over-complication of unlimited murders, guns being wielded indiscriminately even by amateurs, last minute escapes and dead bodies turning up all over the place. Then throw in not one but three rogue Police Officers, even one at a very senior level, (who commits suicide after seeing the error of his ways), together with corruption and paedophilia at a high level in Society and what you have is a pointless instead of “Relentless” description of an escapade in outlandish criminality.Basically how not to write a crime story with poorly developed characters, full of stupid cliches and a disappointing ending. What more could you ask for in a very poorly written novel. Hardly deserves even one Star.So absurd and difficult to go along with, that I had difficulty even finishing it.

A rollor coster ride of a read
As my previous review post my intention was to bing read Simon Kernick books as I confess that I am additive to them and once I start, I can't stop. Just like eating a large tube of Princleps. I just can't get enough as I am itching to know what happens next. But overall a great read of a book. Best wishes Sean

RelentlessSimonKernickWell this man came with cudos, but I didn't get it.It lacked tension for me and I wasn't desperate to turn the pages to find out what was going on.The copper was a good character, but his back story came right at the end and the main man, the civilian having one hell of a day was flaky. The original hook, a best friend is murdered on the phone and this guy has time to pack his kids stuff but not call the police, doesn't seem real. And I can't give away the ending because there wasn't one, suffice to say the bad guys won and the good guys got to live another day.I am going to try another story. I'm curious, the writing was good enough, for me to give his second book a try.So I'm flaky too.
