Art of Mars: Edgar Rice Burroughs illustrated by Mike Hoffman Paperback – Import, 29 July 2014

Always had a soft spot for ERB's John Carter, especially done by Frazetta. This collection by illustrator Mike Hoffman is the next best thing and doesn't disappoint.

Mike Hoffman's art really brings to life the Mars (or Barsoom) of Edgar Rice Rice Burroughs' classic series, with some excellent and very energetic b/w illustrations based on events and scenes from the first three Martian novels.My only negative comment is that there is no accompanying text to put the illustrations into context, except to say which book they are from, hence the four stars, but apart from that this book is a wonderful addition to any ERB library and is strongly recommended.

I'm a big fan of the John Carter Barsoom stories by Edgar Rice Burroughs, and especially love the art that has been inspired by the books. This 64 page artbook includes B&W ink drawings by Mike Hoffman inspired by the first 3 books in the series - 'A Princess Of Mars', 'Gods Of Mars' & 'Warlord Of Mars'. Makes me want to read the books all over again!
