Great Joker, Long Life
I've used both the Raritan C253 and this one. I was turned on to this Jabsco valve when Practical Sailor did a review on it. I get much more life (three to four years) out of the Jabsco Valve than I do out of the Raritan (usually one or two years, but sometimes three). I do have two spares of this valve and one of the duckbill. I plan on installing the duckbill valve next just as a test (and because it's getting old) to see how long it lasts...but I really like this Jabsco unit.

Improves performance. Don't know why my Jabsco Quiet Flush needs them replaced so often.
When I replaced the first one, it was full of ceramic bits (which apparently held the valve open). I don't believe the joker valve had failed, it was just full of bits that wouldn't pass through it. Kinda like grandpa's gall bladder. Unfortunately, removing these bits was nearly as painful as grandpa's procedure. Looks like i'm getting ready to do it again. Wish the kid were a little older. It's be a good project for him.

Does the job to prevent backflow.
They only last for about one sailing season. Have to be replaced annually. Used on a marine toilet.

Keeps pee/poo out of bowl
Buy it in bulk, people, as they fail right on schedule after every 12-18 months of use. Especially for a sailboat where the heel of the boat under sail means anything in the bowl ends up in the bilge, this is probably the most critical $15 part on the bolt except for all those stupid snap rings. This was EXACTLY the same part and packaging I bought at the local chandlery for 50% more.
