Moeller Portable Fuel Tank and Topside Venting Cap

I bought this for an old family friend that was going to toss his tank since he could not find the cap for it. I took the $20 chance instead of him spending $145 for replacement tank. It worked! It seems that all the threads for these outboard tanks are all pretty much the same since the mid to late 80's.

Its a bit tighter-fitting when you screw it on, but it works with an old Neptune 6 gallon marine fuel tank. I assume it will loosen up over time. It is a bit smaller than the oem cap though, and makes it just a bit harder to screw it on and off, but its better than having to buy a complete tank for the old boat just because the cap isn't venting any more!

Johnson/Evinrude 6-gallon DuraTanks made after 2011, (both 5008621 and 5008623), have a very slightly different throat, thread pattern and cap than those made prior to 2011. So, if you're looking for a new cap to use on your pre-2011 6-gallon DuraTanks, the new OEM cap (175981) will not work. (The older tanks with original caps apparently leaked.(?) )I have three of these 6-gallon Dura Tanks (5008623's). One is post 2011 with the new EPA, OSHA, ANSI, IRS, FBI and CIA-approved cap. The other two are pre-2011. One of those has a threaded throat with flat sides; the other tank's throat is entirely threaded. These Moeller caps worked great on the later but did not work on the tank with flat-sided throat. Don't know what's up with that. So, 50% on the pre-2011 Dura Tanks.These are nice caps.

It is a little smaller than the I replaced but the venting is what mattered. Vent works great.

I bought this as a replacement for the factory cap that came with a my 6 gallon tank so that it could vent the pressure inside the tank i works perfectly i would definitely buy from this seller again

I used this cap to replace the gas cap on my Attwood 6 gallon portable gas tank. The Attwood gas tanks have some sort of EPA approved pressure relief cap that let air in as gas is being used (supposedly). When running that in Wisconsin at 35 degrees out hunting ducks, my motor would constantly stall out as the gas tank would vapor lock. I had to drive around with the gas cap off so my motor wouldn't quit. Bought this cap to replace it, and it fits perfectly. The manual vent is perfect. I have not had a problem with vapor locking since.
