I was given this book as a young child and it quickly became my favorite. It is one of the few books that have remained in my library for nearly twenty-five years and that is read once every year or so. I recently loaned it to a friend to read to his young boy, I cannot wait to hear feedback.The Little Captain, his ship the Neversink, and the very odd crew go on many strange adventures in this book. They visit the seven towers and meet the most strange and sometimes gruesome characters imaginable. They always seem to manage to get out of the many pickles they find themselves in and always remain friends.I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys adventure, tales of loyalty and friendship and overcoming adversity. Hopefully this book will come out in print again so it can be enjoyed by many more generations to come.

Searched for this book in English to gift it to the children of good friends of mine. Loved to read it as a kid myself in the original language. Not a typical children's story, sometimes you tend to forget the Little Captain is still a child, the feel to it is he has sailed the seas for many years and has an air of mystery to him. The adventures he and his crew get involved in are imaginative, and wonderfully drawn down. The book is part of a series of 3..keeping my eyes open to find a translation of the other 2 too:)
