Praised for angelic voices and musical sensitivity, the BYU Choirs return after nine years to hit a high note of vocal talent with a new album, I Stand All Amazed. I Stand All Amazed highlights pieces from the BYU Men's Chorus, BYU Women's Chorus, BYU Concert Choir and BYU Singers. The album is a collaborative declaration of the glory of Jesus Christ. The BYU Men's Chorus performs one of their most popular pieces "Beautiful Savior" , arranged by Mack Wilberg. The BYU Men's Chorus consists of 230 auditioned male vocalists and is the largest male choral collegiate organization in the United States. They perform a wide repertoire of works, but the album includes their faith-building selection of "Guide Us, O Thou Great Jehovah". Norm Nielsen, Scera Corporation President, declared a BYU Men's Chorus performance leaves an unforgettable impression for their audience. "Their reputation as a crowd pleaser stems from their dynamic performances and polish", Nielsen said. "They go from powerful and elegant to knee-slapping fun during the course of an evening". In addition to the BYU Men's Chorus, the BYU Women's Chorus performs an arrangement of "Jesus, Lover of my Soul", which was first written by Charles Wesley in 1740, but wasn't put to music by Joseph P. Hollbrook until more than 150 years later. Arranged by BYU Women's Chorus conductor Jean Applonie, this beautiful hymn is said to be one of the finest ever written in the English language, and the performance of it by the 180 auditioned female vocalists of the BYU Women's Chorus will leave one in awe. Also featured are the songs from BYU Concert Choir, a group of approximately 90 auditioned singers, both male and female. Founded in 1984, the BYU Concert Choir has since performed with the Utah Symphony and has produced two records with Tantara Records, All Creatures of our God and King and Beautiful River. The internationally acclaimed BYU Singers performs the title track "I Stand All Amazed", as well as the very popular and inspiring, "This Is The Christ". "This is the Christ" is the personal testimony of President James E. Faust put to music in 1996 by Michael F. Moody. Maurice Casey, past president of American Choral Directors Association, recommends the BYU Singers as an exceptional choir to hear. "I was thoroughly impressed with the artistry and execution", Casey said. "Diction, ensemble and beautiful expression were clearly evident--this is one of the country s finest choirs". BYU Singers has captivated their audiences in Australia, Ireland, Jordan and other worldwide venues in its almost 30 years of sharing inspiring music. BYU Records is part of BYU Music Group, an enterprise center in the School of Music at Brigham Young University, and part of the College of Fine Arts and Communications.
