There is always a strong One Man Army.
The book reveals the atrocities on Jews by the Nazis. However, It shows the zeal of a person to bring the persecutors to the trial and punish. More than that, it shows that the world does not approve the criminals, it always find a way to punish them. So long the world will have faith in humanity, the enemies of humanity will perish. An individual's duty towards his brothers has been portrayed very strongly. Alan Levy deserves shower of flowers.

Holocaust and unknown facts.
The book is a must for serious readers , who believe in social equality but are ready to accept the fact that majority of us are either silent spectators or at times perpetrators or partners of gross injustice to the society. At times the description of incidents drags but probably the process of justice itself has been dragged equally. The inhuman behaviour of Nazis , continued efforts of Wiesenthal , detailed description of Kurt Waldheim political manoeuvres , all adds to Himalayan efforts made by few individuals, whose work as Nazi hunters did not go in vain.

Not what I xpected
I thought this would be a little more about the investigative side of this great man's life; how he tracked down these war criminals and sadists and winkled them out of their holes. Instead, you get superficial accounts and long rambling biographies (which feel like padding) of prominent Nazis (i.e. Eichmann) the capture of whom Wiesenthal had only a peripheral connection. I would like to have seen a little more on how he and the US Intelligence unit managed to round up so many of the less well known early on and then how he later exposed Nazis hiding in plain site in German society, post-war.

A hard, unbending account.
A short while after I started to read this book I was reminded of the saying, though I'm not sure now to whom it referred, 'When she was good, she was very, very good but when she was bad, she was bloody awful' or something similar, and that really sums up this read. I, like one or two others found it to be a frustrating, hard read and I couldn't make my mind-up by the end if I still felt the same about Wiesenthal as when I began. The sections on Stangl, Mengele and Eichmann were really quite interesting. OK much of what was written has since been re-hashed in 20 more books but that's life. But unfortunately the remainder of the book was unable to hold my interest in the same way.

A good read. Quite objective about Wiesenthal - not just a hero worship of the man.
