Product is slightly different color but seems to have a lower melting point
This is my third purchase of Shea moisture raw shea butter. This product that I received today is a little different than the first two in that it isn't white-ish, it is a light yellowish green. I searched online and found out that it's perfectly normal for raw shea butter to have that greenish tinge. It just depends on where the shea butter is from and how it was handled after it was gathered. I think that the scent is just a bit stronger then before, but it is the same scent. On me,the scent dissipates very quickly after I've applied it to my skin so it doesn't really bother me that it has just a tad bit of an earthy smell to begin with.I sampled a little bit of the product I received today and I was happy to see that this shea butter melts very easily as soon as I put it in my hands, more so than the previous two orders that I received. My usual procedure for using the shea butter is to whip the raw shea butter together with some macadamia oil, using a hand mixer. It results in a light whipped texture that spreads easily on my skin and absorbs well it in a few minutes. Maybe halfway through my use of the jar, I might need to whip the remaining shea butter-macadamia oil mixture again because it reverts back a bit to its original firm state. When I've used up my current supply of the shea butter and I get to this latest jar that I received, I'm going try spreading the raw shea butter on my skin without whipping or adding the oil. I think it might spread easily and absorb into my skin quickly right out of the jar.

Great for Eczema
I have purchased this a few times in the past. I switched to shea butter for my eczema because its healthier and it really locks in the moisture for hours. I put it on my baby to who also suffers from eczema, and I do notice a difference. This brand does have a stronger smell to it, but it wears off after you apply it. Not completely smooth either but I just rub in my hands to soften it. All in all, I enjoy it and I recommend.

do NOT use on hair.
I was recommended to use this raw shea butter to help add moisture in my hair. I read all the instructions, I warmed a lil bit up in the microwave, and I put it on my wet clean hair. It IMMEDIATELY tangled my hair (my hair never tangles) and made it hard and completely immobile. I tried to work with it for as long as possible but nothing was helping it so I decided to rinse it out. Rinsing it out did absolutely nothing. I then had to wash my hair all over again just for there still to be residue in my hair. I don’t even understand how anyone could use this without completely ruining their whole head of hair. I have no idea how good this works on skin but this product definitely has one of the worst smells I’ve ever smelt.

Grainy but works.
As many have mentioned, my jars arrived grainy. I was able to melt a little in the microwave and apply to my son’s hair. Moisturized nicely with very little scent. I also contacted the company about the texture and this was the response:“ Shea butter is good for skin and hair because of its unique fatty acid composition, but that same blend of fatty acids can sometimes result in variations in appearance and composition. Shea butter can vary from completely smooth, to slightly grainy, to very grainy and a little oily. All of these are normal variations, and none of them affect the efficacy of the shea butter. If the shea butter cools quickly, the solids don't have time to form crystals, and the butter appears smooth. If they cool slowly, the fatty acids can crystallize into large clumps, which causes the appearance of graininess. When shea butter is used, however, all of the fatty acids re melt to do their work, so the grainy appearance at room temperature will become softer and smoother. The most common methods for warming shea butter will be to warm the product under warm water (the higher the temperature of the water, the faster it will soften), or to massage the butter in between hands. The friction and body heat will soften the butter."

Product works as advertised
Nice thick consistency. Not fragrant, in fact has a “raw” smell…but can be melted down with cocoa butter for fragrance. This is great for moisturizing the roughest skin (hands, feet)

Thick and hard consistency, not a lotion
I love this brand and have used several of their products, this product is so thick-it is hard to use. I am not sure I am just not used to raw shea-but it is very hard and does not spread on anything. So if you are looking for lotion-this is not that.

Exactly the same as the one I have currently
I read the reviews and saw that there was a variation in the consistency of what other customers have received. I initially purchased this at my local grocery store. My hands have been extremely dry. I've tried everything from Eucerin, Curel, Gold Bond, O'Keefe's, Olay, and everything in between. Nothing has helped. I've made my own body butter in the past, but it started to get expensive.I grabbed this and it helped tremendously! So much so that I came to Amazon to purchase another container. The one from Amazon is exactly the same as what I purchased from the store. It's solid, creamy, and has a little grit to it. Everything melts perfectly once I rub it in. The smell and color are the same as well. I don't melt it in the microwave. I just use it straight out of the container. I know there is a debate about the color/consistency of raw Shea butter. For me, this works. I still have to reapply throughout the day, but my hands aren't irritated. They feel soft and moisturized. I plan on using this on my body too. So far, this is a great product for me. I hope others have luck with it as well.
