Τhe second part of Libyan Air Wars of the Africa@War series covers the years 1985-1986. The writers begin their new book by presenting to the readers the new informations and photos they discovered, regarding the first part stories. That way they manage to update the previous content and proceed to the new one. After a short introduction to LAAF structure and operations during early 80s new exciting stories about Libyan Air Force and it’s Pilots unfold through the five chapters of this great softcover book. The Czechoslovak and Italian connection to the expansion of LAAF is a story which is not know to is full extend to the aviation historian and enthusiast. The writers set the record straight and continue to the second chapter, explaining the continuing escalation between LAAF and USN fighters which led to Attain Document operations. The tactical thinking and the dogfights of MIGs and Mirage’s versus F-14 Tomcats and F-18 Hornets are nicely covered and first hand accounts and previously unpublished pictures completes the story. Another subject dealing on the book is the next intervention of Libya in Chad and the French deployment under operation Epervier. As noted also for the first part of Libyan Air Wars, the air war over Chad and the operations of both Armee de l’ Air and LAAF covered extensively for the first time and it’s a good reason to buy the book. The last chapter describes the development of operation Prairie Fire and the strikes of the USN against Libyan Navy and Air Defense sites. For one more time the engagements between Foxbats and Tomcats as well as the shipping strikes made by Corsairs and Intruders are fully covered. Summing up its a great book, with updated illustration pages, many profiles, maps and pictures which helps the reader to put himself in the middle of the action.

A superb historical reference on a long period of tension in the Mediterranean. Stunning details on the historical background, orders of battle, military hardware, and a very thorough look at the operations themselves. The photographic material is impressive in quality and numbers. A more than welcome addition to a fantastic series.

Il libro rappresenta il secondo di tre fascicoli destinati alla descrizione delle operazioni politico-militari (soprattutto aeronautiche) e delle relative attività terroristiche e di intelligence legate alla Repubblica Libica di Gheddafi. Il secondo fascicolo è probabilmente il più interessante dei tre, in quanto riporta le vicende del dirottamento dell'Achille Lauro, dell'attività dei servizi segreti Italiani a favore dell'aeronautica libica e della controversa azione di Sigonella. Insomma, una buona visione d'insieme delle attività militari degli anni '80 avvenute in Libia. Molte sono le notizie inedite relative a fatti o avvenimenti di risonanza. Non aspettatevi una narrazione cronologicamente dettagliata, in quanto le pagine sono in numero limitato e, spesso, occupate da rare foto dell'epoca o disegni a colori dei velivoli coinvolti nelle operazioni. Lo stile è piuttosto stringato ed essenziale. Le informazioni sono documentate e referenziate e, comunque, sempre relative alle operazioni aeree.Altri volumi dello stesso autore sono disponibili, relativi ad attività belliche Africane occorse nel secondo dopoguerra.Conclusione: Interessante, documentato, racconta fatti poco noti o ignorati. Per motivi di spazio la trattazione spesso non è esaustiva, inoltre le foto d'epoca (rare e scattate dai protagonisti delle vicende o di amatori) sono di qualità che lascia a desiderare. In ogni caso, un buon volume, soprattutto se lo trovate in Warehouse Deals....
