The blade is made of straight carbon steel. Which means the blade will tarnish with use. This will not affect the performance of the knife. Even with the tarnished (patina) blade, it is still a beautiful knife. I own the knife in 6”, 8”, and 10 inch blade lengths. I accidentally washed my son’s knife in the dishwasher. Is it ruined?

No its not ruined, just make sure there is no rusr spots on it, if there is use a piece of steel wool and rub it off and re-apply the oil that comes with the knife. You will be fine.
