Another fast and furious kung fu comedy classic directed by Sammo Hung (The Millionaires’ Express), Knockabout features a cast of martial arts movie legends including Yuen Biao (The Prodigal Son), Bryan “Beardy” Leung Kar-yan (Warriors Two), and Lau Kar-wing (Odd Couple) alongside Hung himself. Brothers Yipao (Yuen Biao) and Taipao (Leung Kar-yan) are a couple of down on their luck conmen. After getting soundly defeated by the kung fu master, Silver Fox (Lau Kar-wing), the brothers realise it would be in their own self-interest if they learn how to fight, and they ask him to train them. Unfortunately, their new master is actually a ruthless killer, and when the brothers realise this, one of them is murdered. To get revenge, the surviving brother must learn a unique form of kung fu from an unlikely source, a beggar who just happens to be a master fighter! Why so many unavailable on normal dvd ?
Scrolling through all of Jackie Chan's dvds then Yuen Biao's, it's ALL Blue Ray and none normal dvd format. I don't have a Blue Ray player. All my dvd collections are normal HD. Why is basically the entire movie collection of these artists now unavailable ? The movie I've given 5 starts as I have seen it ... but not on dvd.

Oh yes!
The wonderful 'Knockabout' gets the gorgeous Eureka treatment and it's definitely never looked better. Deep, rich colours and plenty of detail make this another 5-star print that fans will definitely appreciate. There are some excellent extras too - a good collection of interviews, a commentary and, something that I was especially knocked out by (pardon the pun), the deleted scene; I'd never seen it before and it might have been worth buying just for this. The film itself was the one that put the mercurial Yuen Biao on the map and he is pushed to the limit by the great Sammo Hung. The beginning is perhaps too broad in humour for some, but once it finds it's gear, this is a wonderful film. The skipping training sequence and finale are eye-popping; no special effect can replace the remarkable sight of seeing actors ACTUALLY doing these things. We'll never get another age like this in cinema so get 'Knockabout' and savour an absurdly good film presented with the reverence it deserves.
