can I use purified bottled water instead of distilled ?

No, you must use distilled water. It's less then a dollar for a gallon at a grocery store. But you will need it to season your humidor as well.

How long does it take to get the humidity up to at least 70%?

Not that long. About 24-48 hours of I remember correctly. The instruction will tell you. The beads are extremely small and you'll think there isn't near enough of them but they swell up and fill the cup.

is this two-way humidification? What is the difference between this and the black-ice version (besides the container)

It’s not true two way humidification. I don’t know the difference between this and the black ice version, but as someone who’s serious about cigars, this works awful. Do yourself a favor and spend more on Boveda packets or the other company that’s making a similar product now. This isn’t worth it. I almost returned it, but just didn’t feel like going through the hassle at the post office.

How much water should I put in sonthat I do not have beads all over the place?

What I did was drill a bunch of holes in the black cap and you never have to open it again. Just make sure the holes are not bigger than the beads. Pour distilled water on top and let water go through the holes. Beads stay put.
