Nice bit of kit!
I pray I will never need to use these but they are great quality. I you operate in remote places with groups of people with any risk of a sucking wound to the chest, you need these in you kit. Highly recommended.

Glad To Have Them On My Person
In the light of recent events I’m happy to have these items on my person. They are fresh replacements for old chest seals and I pray I don’t ever have to use them.

Essential for your ‘away’ med-kit
A great addition to your med-kit if you’re going anywhere a little fruity and something or someone wants to put a hole in your chest… accidentally or not. Put simply if you’ve had your chest punctured air will fill the void between the lung and rib cage, this in turn will mean your lung deflates and you’ll die of hypoxia fairly quickly. This acts as a patch allowing air to escape but not enter the chest. Don’t get me wrong this is no magic cure but will buy time until you can reach a trauma surgeon (hopefully). Each pack contains two seals presumably for entry / exit holes. Anymore holes than this it’s probably time for the recipient to quickly up their life insurance! Packaging is nicely robust and mine has a shelf life of over 5 years. Not 5 stars? Well that would need me experiencing a penetrating chest injury to comment on exactly how they perform.

Handy to have, hope never to use!
Ever since I saw a TV show where a guy saved someone’s life by using a credit card to plug a sucking chest wound, I vowed to add one to my first aid box in the boot of my car, so I was delighted when these appeared on the Amazon vine program. This is a pack of 2 individually sealed, plastic chest seals. Now obviously I can’t actually open this to use and review, (and I pray I never will!) but the instructions are printed quite clearly on the outside: simply remove the protective liner to reveal the adhesive part and stick it down over the chest wound where is prevent air from entering the chest wound. There’s a clever little vent in them which allows gases to escape from inside the chest cavity, but at the same time prevents air from entering the wound. That’s it. I do think they’re a little overpriced at £20 for something that will sit in your first box and hopefully never see the light of day, especially when you consider, they are essentially two square pieces of flexible plastic film with a self-adhesive gel layer, but you don’t want to be cutting corners, trying to save a few pounds when you’ve literally got someone’s life in your hands! A fine addition to any first aid box.
