Bought for my silkie and fits perfect! She did not show signs that it bothers her. No walking funny or falling over like some reviews said. She is wearing a size small. I will definitely order more if my other hens lose feathers due to being mounted by the rooster.**Update later today while she was free ranging it came off and now I can’t find it anywhere!! Not very happy! There needs to be an xtra small but with the same length to cover the back!

I bought this Hen Saver apron in XL for one of my Light Brahmas after other hens have pulled out nearly all of her back feathers. After weeks of applying anti-pick creams to her back with no success, I decided to look into buying one of these aprons. I was skeptical at first, due to the bad reviews I've read about other hen saddles but I figured I had no choice and my poor hen needed protection. This particular hen is bigger than average hens and so I was looking for the biggest apron I could find. I ordered this one, gently put it on her and I can't believe how awesome this thing is!!Not only does it lay flat on her back, but the shape is perfect for allowing her to still reach her oil gland at the base of her tail, AND the fabric is a nice thick material.The straps are best put on by first of all having someone help you hold the hen. Gently pull one wing and ALL wing feathers through the first strap-I ran into this problem and my hen started freaking out because I didn't have all of her smaller wing feathers through the strap. Then (and this is where a second person can help you hold the hen) gently pull the second wing through the other strap, again making sure you have all wing feathers through, and it's on!My hen did pick at the straps for a couple of hours after I first put this on her, so I adjusted them to make sure one wasn't tighter than the other. Since then, she has become accepting of it and acts like it's not even on (it's been about a week now). The other hens picked at it too, at first, so I just put a light coating of anti-pick cream to the apron and everyone has left it alone.I highly recommend this apron!! This size is great for the big girls. I also purchased a size Large for one of my Black Australorps and that also fits great.Hope this review helps!

I have a hen that was attacked by 2 of my dogs. I got this to help her back heal where they pulled out her feathers. The vest works well once its on. However, it's a pain to put on an already upset bird. Maybe v2 should include hook and loop closures or clips. I will say that we have had no problems with it falling off the bird after its been properly put on her. Overall, I'm please. The build quality and material are good.

The size small fits my bantam girls perfectly, protecting them from Randy Rooster's toenails. Solid color (brown) reduces visual interest and therefore pecking from Sisters. Super easy to put on. Couldn't be happier with these hen saddles.

Our 2yo buff Orpington Maize was picked up and dropped by a hawk 2-3 times. She survived, but suffered a deep 6” gash on her back. After a week of crate rest and Banixx (it’s magic!!), she was ready to rejoin her sisters. Purchased this apron to protect her wound site from her sisters. Bought one in XL and one in L as wasn’t sure the fit, the L fits best (modeled in pic in blue by Winnifred). Easy to put on and off, no complaints from the girls!

This apron is perfect. It's helping my feathered friend grow back in back feathers that kept getting pulled. I'm quite pleased with it.

I have had mixed results with these. Sometimes they help a lot, but other times the roosters manage to get their feet under the saddle and tread bareback. I ordered 3 of these, and 2 are the larger size in the pic attached while the 1 is way smaller. It makes a huge difference in the coverage, believe it or not. I have others that are large and extra large, so the true mediums must be the left side of the pic. I'm guessing the right side is a mislabeled small, so some people who say they are too small may actually have gotten a small! If I had gotten just that one, compared to my larges, I would have thought there was no option in between.
