This tile is gorgeous! I decided to get the rectangle shape instead of the little squares. But if you want to do less cutting- I suggest the squares for ease of application. You need to use a very thin application of tile setting mortar so it doesn’t squish through the mesh- the tiles are very thin. I’m not sure what to do around the edges yet because regular tile trim does not fit with the thickness of the tile. I cut the tiles with a dremel cutting wheel and they can be sanded and shaped by sanding. If you do this- just make sure to wear protection because the shell dust is not safe to breathe. I used mapei colorflex 3d in frosted glass to grout.

Ok look we’re no experts. But we did our best and it’s a vast improvement from before. We use mussel bound sheets underneath the tile after priming and smoothing the wall. Then attached the sheets (some grout lines are bigger than others because attaching perfectly was hard. Note that all the shapes are naturally imperfect and not flat, it is real shell. Which kinda makes the shapes more forgiving, but definitely not for you if you’re looking for perfectly square tiles) We used an eggshell maipei grout and it looks beautiful. I noticed some of the tiles unattached from the mesh backing and ended up sealing somewhat crooked in the grout but oh well. No one else notices. I still need to use an impregnator sealer but the final look is fresh and beautiful. Photos are pre-grout.

I absolutely love this tile! It was significantly cheaper than any of the other mother of pearl tiles I saw online and in person. I had ordered a sample of one that was more than twice the price, and the quality of the shell was identical on this and the more expensive tile. The mesh can be cut with regular scissors, making it easy for even a novice like me to DIY. I found it hard to cleanly cut the tile chips themselves (tried a couple of different glass and tile nippers and a dremel), but was able to get around this by cutting a few single rows/columns of tile and adjusting the spacing a bit where needed. Because of all of the different tones and light reflection, this tile is pretty forgiving when it comes to small shifts like this. It is even prettier in person than in pictures! I included a few different lighting examples in my pics to demonstrate how the shimmer changes depending on how the light hits it. I couldn't be happier with my new backsplash, and would highly recommend this tile to anyone. Excellent value and quality, and it's very easy to work with.

I really like the way that these came out in our bathroom. The tiles are very pretty and were a fraction of the price other mother of pearl tiles. I was pleased that they appear whiter with the bright white grout we used. There were a few tiles that had damage or an orangish color so we just popped those out and glued the replacement tiles provided in those spots. They are thin tiles so you will most likely have to built up the wall behind them if you are placing them next to other tiles. The tiles are not perfect, but that is true to mother of pearl and adds character. Grouting and cleaning grout after installation was a bit of a pain but I think the tiles turned out very pretty and they add a touch of something special. I am pleased with our purchase.

Not only was the mother-of-pearl backsplash beautiful, it was thin and easy to work with. Speedy delivery in one box. None of the rules came loose from the mesh. I was impressed on how uniform the tile was. No need for a tile cutter.... just use a mosaic tile nipper. I used a white super-flex mortar, a sealer (because it's natural stone/shell), white grout, and a white caulk. Take your time..... mine spent 3 days due to allowing mortar and grout to set and dry. The haze left on the tiles was easily wiped off with a clean, dry rag because i applied the sealer first and again after grouting was complete. I bought 6 packs on 6 12×12 tiles because i had 30 sq ft to cover. I only opened 5 packs... due to no mistakes. Debating on returning the single pack or soaking ideas for using them on another project. Highly recommended and satisfied.
