Great Adaptation, For Fans & Future Fans
You'd only have to read my review of the book this graphic novel is based on to know I love the freshness Mead brought to the teen vampire fiction genre. It's one of my favorite just-for-fun reads and a series I have turned friends and family onto multiple times. Seeing it being adapted into one of my favorite mediums instantly gave it must-have status. But could the team of Dragoon and Vieceli pull it off without treading on the toes of fandom and author alike? As far as the story goes I think Dragoon did a great job of adapting the book into a graphic novel. My only issue there is that the final few scenes felt rushed. I had to flip back and make sure I hadn't missed a page or two. Another thing I felt did not translate well was Dimitri in general. Both visually and in dialog he fell flat. He's not my favorite character already so it would have been great to at least have him be more visually compelling. In full color from start to finish the quality on this book is fantastic. Vieceli's style treads the line between comic and manga (much like the Twilight adaptation) but aside from Mia's creepy Lolita-styled hair and clothing I didn't feel was consistent with the book it works. I definitely found Mia distracting in this, her hair in particular felt jarring. It looked out of place in a bad way. I think if that had been toned down just a little it would have been great but it kicked my love of this adaptation down from love to like.On the whole this is a nicely done adaptation that any die-hard fan of the Vampire Academy series should snap up. If you've not read the books and have been considering it I would certainly suggest giving this a try as it is a nice starting point. Can't wait for the release of the Frostbite (VA #2) graphic novel in spring 2012!

Must Have for Vampire Academy Fans
I'm a huge fan of the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead. Vampire Academy is hardly my favorite book in the series (I'm eagerly anticipating the Frostbite and Shadow Kiss graphic novels), but I was definitely impressed with this graphic novel. Seeing the book in picture on the upper-left hand corner just doesn't cut it. Each page is a high quality glossy page with full color graphics. Emma Vieceli really did amazingly with the artwork, Rose and Dimitri look perfect. The only character I though could have had a better look overall was Lissa. But if that's my only quip as far as graphics go, I think that's great. The graphic novel is like a great little refresher when you don't want (or have time) to read the actual book. I honestly believe every single Vampire Academy should own a copy of this graphic novel.I bought this on Amazon, it was shipped in a timely manner, and came in perfect condition. Even though the book is a little pricy, I was definitely satisfied with my purchase.

A mildly interesting graphic novel, but seems to have been written for the teenage girls vampire market.
As I mentioned in my review of "The Vampire Academy: The Ultimate Guide" I have been a fan of Zombie and Vampire stories for most of my life. In fact, I consider the original Dracula a classic book and movie. I also loved the movie "Interview with a Vampire" both the book and movie. After I read the "Ultimate Guide" I realized my mistake in not investigating this series in more detail before I purchased the two books. I have nothing against a writer focusing on a specific audience, which in this case is obviously young teenage girls. However, I do think the book writers and promoters of the Vampire Academy: A Graphic Novel, who clearly were greatly influenced by the silly Twilight Series, would have advertised the specific audience the book is aimed at, which is young teenage girls. I cannot imagine a teenage boy wanting to read the boring gossipy dialog of these girls, but I could be wrong? To be fair, even though I found the dialog in this graphic novel was nothing but meaningless gossip that women seem to love, as can be seen in these mindless popular T.V. series, I will have to admit that the drawings are excellent in the illustrations. In conclusion, if you are an enthusiastic fan of The Vampire Academy series, you will love this graphic novel version. Personally, I did not find the characters very compelling and like most female based stories (Unless they are about true Warrior Women), there is too much talk and very little actual action in this book. I kept looking for more illustrated workouts in their gym and more fight scenes, but what I read was more dialog. Oh well! Fool me once.Rating: 3 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Predator Hunter: A warrior's memoir).

Fantastic
The thing about me and VA is this: I LOVED THE BOOKS. Oh, I’ve been going through New-VA-Book Withdrawal since the last one came out. Then I decided to purchase for myself a birthday present, and I bought the 1st and 2nd Graphic Novels for the Vampire Academy. The illustrations are fantastic and expressive, and the story is beautifully adapted. I love how Christian and Adrian (in the 2nd book) are drawn, especially. EXACTLY and PERFECTLY how I figured they’d look. These are a wonderful addition to your bookshelf, especially if you’re a VA fan in withdrawal.

Demais!
Lindo, veio bem embalado e rápido, veio com uns amassados na lateral mas tudo bem. Os "desenhos" são bem legais

Freaking phenomenal
Seriously I can't tell you in words how much this series rocked. I've never been into fantasy books but this changed my life. The writing style, character development, relationships, plots freaking everything was FANTASTIC. I could not stop reading. I read all 6 in 6 days and then read them all over again right after. I considered reading them again a 3rd time but realized I was becoming an addict lol I have seriously considered making it into movies myself. The movie that did come out was horrid and paid no attention to the actual book. Such a shame. You need to read this series. Do it now dammit. By the way I just realized this review was for the comic and not the book bUT I put all this effort in so just pretend it's for the book lol BTW the graphic novel sucks.
