Super easy to install, "Cheap Insurance"
This was real easy to install near the gas water heater, also tested with butane, it is a combustible gas which is what the sensor in this unit detects. With about a 2 second spray from a butane lighter refill can then wafting the gas/air towards the unit with the hands, mine right away went to level 9 and the alarm sound went off. Important to understand that most gases dont have a smell, it is added so you can detect a leak. Often times if a tank is low, the stuff that they put in for smell will settle at the bottom, therefore when the hot water lights up to heat water it can discharge a small amount of this into the air, making you think you have a gas leak. In any event, test before relying on anything!! I also have another meter that detects gases as well that I use to check the lines with. Sometimes you have to get pretty close to the leak for some detectors to detect the gas. This unit seemed to detect the gas from a few feet away, so I would recommend placing the unit near the device that you are wanting to protect. AT THE END OF THE DAY, IF YOU SMELL GAS, DONT IGNORE IT!!!

Works almost too good!
This device is so sensitive! I have it plugged in on my kitchen counter by my coffee pot. The other day I took out the trash, used some hand sanitizer, then went to pour some coffee and it started screaming at me! haha! I was so confused at first. It picked up the hand sanitizer on my hands from probably 5 feet away. Great product, makes me feel safe.

Peace of Mind
It’s an easy-to-install peace-of-mind gadget. I haven’t tested it but it looks nice sitting at 0. I hope it stays that way, and I never hear the alarm. I bought 2 more.

Almost instantaneous alarm to most gas fumes, but watch out for Amazon misinformation.
I had just changed out my electric stove in my home for a gas range and had to bring in a new gas line to the kitchen area. I thought a home gas detector would give me a little “peace of mind” about some of the work that had been done. However, I am a very skeptical about some of the brands of gas detectors I have never heard of before, and also very skeptical of some of the information and technical details that was listed on the Amazon website. When I found this EG Air gas detector for twenty bucks on Amazon I immediately wanted to know more about this company. If I was going to have to trust this device with my life, I wanted to at least know who EG Air was. This is where the fun and games had started. I first went to the “Detailed Seller Information” page on Amazon to write a few questions to the company about this EG Air gas detector. It just so happens that the company that was listed on that page did not have anything to do with EG Air, and the address listed was somebody’s house in Michigan. I sent my questions to the company listed and never got an answer back. Then I called Amazon and asked them if they could give me any information on the company or at least a phone number. They came back and gave me a phone number, which I had called four times and left three messages to. Finally someone from this company, which was not EG Air, returned my calls, and asked me where I got this number and basically not to call back. I finally thought heck with this, for twenty bucks I’ll just buy the item and find out just who exactly makes it. Some of the information and technical details about this EG Air gas detector on Amazon was either incorrect or incomplete, and that is sugar coating it. Their information stated that the gas detector has a Catalytic Gas Sensor (which to me was important) when it does not. It states that it is powered by Propane and requires batteries when it does not. In the technical details it states that the part number is Y201 (which is the handheld meter) and the manufacture is EG. I never really did find out who EG Air was, or where they were located. What I did eventually find out is that this Y401 home gas detector is manufactured by Yeezou Technology Company Ltd in China, and the only real efficient way of contacting them is through email at [email protected] or [email protected]. Or call them direct overseas. I have to say that their technical service team and sales personnel are top notch first rate people, who will help you in a flash, and their products seem to be the same in quality. This Y401 gas detector has a two year warranty, plus one extended year once you email the company, information that I could not find on Amazon even when I called! The gas detector has a service life of around 5 to 8 years, but the company recommends that you change it out in 5 years because of food oil fumes and dust that my reduce the life of the semiconductor gas sensor. One of my questions was how will you know if the detector fails and stops working. The detector will display a number other than “O” or the yellow “Fault” light will come on. The detector will also display a reminder function in the program when the product is in use for the sixth year, the screen will display an “E”. When I first installed this gas detector of course I tested it, and was surprised just how fast the detector responded, within a couple of seconds the alarm went off. I even walked five feet away and the detector started reading the signal almost immediately. The gas detector was plugged into my AC receptacle about 26 inches away from my stove, I fried hamburger that night with the largest burner on high and the detector never registered any signal at all. This was one of my concerns, I wanted a gas detector that would let me know if there were any methane gas fumes in my home, but I didn’t want a detector that was going to go off all night while I was cooking dinner. So far the 5% gas alarm trigger level on this detector seems to work perfect. Also, so far I would recommend this gas detector for your home, which I believe is basically the Y401 Techamor home gas detector, which Yeezou Technology Company makes. At least there you may get more pertinent information. As you can see, I have supplied a photo of the EG gas detector I purchased on Amazon, and as you can also see the EG emblem on the gas detector, that you don’t see on the Amazon website photo.

It works!
This item actually detects propane. First, we tested it with a hand torch and immediately it went off. Then we installed it by our propane fireplace and it actually detected a small amount of gas from trying to ignite it. We keep is close by in case the flame gets put out and we are unaware. A great TESTED buy!Edit: Store brand disinfectant spray activated the alarm on this. I sprayed a chair in the room with disinfectant spray and the alarm registered it as a gas leak. It went to a level 4 and started beeping. Some might find that annoying but for me that is great!
