This is a great mineral sunblock. For those who are not familiar with this type of sunscreen - because it is mineral based - zinc oxide and titanium dioxide - it will sit on top of the skin, rather than 'soak in' as the chemical based ones do. Yes it goes on white and takes some 'rubbing in' and then letting it set for a few moments to dry down.I personally love mineral sunscreens for the precise reasons I don't care for the chemical based ones - they do not have the distinctive sunscreen odor and they normally don't irritate the skin, especially around the eyes.The Australian Gold brand has been my go to for years. I normally like the tinted version, as it does not leave any white cast and does offer a smoothing effect to my face. However, the tinted version in "Light" has been harder and harder to come by, so I decided to try the "Medium Tint" which was waaay to dark for my light skin.So I wondered what would happen if I mixed the Medium Tint with this No Tint (white) and YAY! I've been mixing about half and half each and works beautifully.I will say that the this non-tinted version is a little more moist or emollient than the tinted version, making it a little longer to dry back, but it's not an issue for me. I use this over my entire face, neck and chest. Sometimes I will use a little loose powder on a fluffy brush if it still feels a little tacky after finishing my makeup.Since using these sunscreens, I have no need to use a cream or liquid foundation on my 57yo face. They leave a smooth matte finish and on the days I feel like a little more coverage, I'll brush on a little powder foundation in those areas.

I bought a bunch of different types of mineral sunscreen for our trip near some coral reefs. My skin isn't particularly sensitive, and I was hoping for a nice fragrance. This is one of the only ones I found that had a fragrance added. The fragrance was mild and nice, and it disappeared after a while. The sunscreen was thick and creamy. I would say it was OK as a moisturizer, but I needed some extra moisturizer, even though I was using it a lot.I found it disappeared relatively easily BUT I'm also super-pale, so I might not be the best judge. I tried one of their lightest-tinted sunscreens, and it was way too dark for my skin. I looked much better with the slight bit of white cast.I highly recommend it to any pale-skinned person without fragrance sensitivity. I still recommend it to other folks, but maybe not so highly.

this is my favorite sunscreen ive tried so far. since its mineral it doesnt make my eyes burn, it leaves my skin matte and not greasy at all, and the smell is fairly neutral. it does leave a bit of a white cast but its not too bad. id rather that than pay out the nose for a fancy mineral sunscreen or have my eyes burn from a chemical one.

I tried around 8 different reef safe sunblocks. Australian Gold and Thrive were the best. The only reef safe sunblocks are those that use either non-micronized Zinc Dioxide, or non-micronized Titanium Dioxide. Any sunblock with other active ingredients may claim to be reef safe, but it isn’t.Why wear reef safe sunblock? All water goes to the ocean eventually, so I try to use this stuff as much as I can. But you especially should wear it if you’re going anywhere near a tropical coral reef. They’re vital ecosystems that are having enough trouble as it is. Hawaii has already banned a few of the most harmful ingredients, though there are still plenty out there that are still technically allowed.Australian Gold isn’t tacky, and spreads reasonably well. What surprised me is that it’s actually functionally better than chemical sunblock. I’m pale and I’ve pretty much never burned while wearing this stuff, even when going in the water. “Water resistant 80 minutes” is actually true with this sunblock, whereas with most chemical sunblocks I’d say that’s a false claim (more like 30 minutes).Because it’s fairly chemically inert, it doesn’t hurt if you get it in your eyes. I can actually spread a bit on my eyelids if I’m expecting a ton of sun exposure (surfing, etc), and on my lips.It does whiten you up a bit, and if you’re hairy, there’s sort of an art to spreading it without leaving white patches visible. If that bothers you, you should try Thrive. While I don’t know if it’s as waterproof as Australian, and it might sting eyes, it’s an oily mineral sunblock that spreads more evenly than anything else I’ve tried. Australian Gold is king when it comes to being functionally the best. Thrive is probably cosmetically the best, and will probably protect you just as well if you aren’t going in the water.One more word of warning, not all Australian Gold sunblocks are reef safe. They do make non reef safe, chemical sunblocks… make sure you buy the ones that say “botanical.”
